I had my two sleds put down at the dealer and gave them seven quarts of oil. They gave me back 2. I checked the oil on both and they are about a 1/4 inch below full. The engines were fogged so can't start to get a true level. Since the manual says to put two quarts in and run and then...
Dry sump vs wet sump is the reason
The reason you start it and let it warm up and then check it is because it has a dry sump system vs a wet sump on a car. If you check your oil level without warming up the engine it is very possible you will get a false level. Case in point - if I check my...
I am thinking of doing the unthinkable - selling my two 07 Attak GT'S for a couple of new Yamaha three wheelers. The Grizzly 700 FI with EPS and a 550 FI EPS. My reasoning is as follows:
Ride year around
Can do more of my own maintenance - such as oil changes, etc
No more frostbite
Much...
Hello,
I have a Garmin 60csx and I have had it for about three years. I have never had temperature related issues until last week in Hurley. It will freeze on a screen and I have to take the batteries out to get it to reset as the power button wont work. I have tried it with LIthium...
Dont shoot the messenger
I had a dealer tell me that he has had to replace three apex motors this year as they were running mobil 1 oil. Something about it doesn't play well with the oil pump on the apex. He also said not to use an oil that is energy conserving and that mobil 1 is a great car...
Hello,
Anyone had service work done at Recreation Plus in Twin Lakes, WI? I am thinking of changing dealers after my spark plug debacle from previous dealer (over torqued and spark plug threads stuck in head - dealer in WI on trip fixed). It is either going to be Hammertime (doubtful)...
Jeff at Minocqua Yamaha got the spark plug threads out and everything is good. He put a new plug in and it runs great. Battery was 4 years old so I had him replace it as well. Thanks for everyone's input and help! We can ride tomorrow and that is awesome.
Time is good in some cases but...
Dealer who did it is not the dealer who is fixing it as we are on a snowmobile trip in WI and dealer is in IL. Dealer here seems to think they can fix it.
Update: Kevin was right!
My sled is at the dealer and he originally thought it was a bad battery based on the way it was cranking. When it did start he thought it had fouled plugs. He changed three of the plugs and apparently the dealer that put the new plugs in last year over tightened one...
We had been riding for about an hour and I am very carefull to not foul a plug by letting the sleds run until the running boards are warm to the touch even when loading or unloading. I wish it was that and appreciate the input. If I was closer to Port I would have your techs take a look at...
It was popping but the backfiring really didnt start until the last few miles. When we got back I let both sleds sit outside for awhile. When I came back to start them to load on the trailer it was back firing then.
I have two 07 Attak GT'S. One with 2200 mile and the other with 1700. We are up in WI on a trip and stopped to get gas. After getting gas my wife said that her sled was running bad. We both got gas at the same time and place and mine was running fine, so I didnt think it was bad gas. I rode...
I just thought of something - the cover of the bearing has a snap ring on it so the seal cant come off. I guess it has to be too much grease. I looked at Rockerdan's instructions and pics when doing last year and my bearings before putting the seal back on looked like his. Thanks a million...
The seal appears to be on and it looks like it is oozing out a little and then this got on the shaft - I guess I put too much grease on. The secondary is on so it is a little hard to see but I can see the seal and as far as I can tell it is on. i Know the seal was on and fine when we finished...
Hello,
I repacked the jackshaft bearing on my sleds at the end of last year before taking them to the dealer to have them summerized. Today I was putting a belt on and I looked behind the secondary and saw the pic I have attached and it is the same on both sleds - 07 Attak GT'S. I don't...
How do you know when you have a bad bearing on one of the wheels?
Supposdely my dealer checks them everytime I have them summerize but I want to know what to look for myself.
Thanks!
Mark
I have a new 8DN that I am going to put on my 07 Attak GT. Do I need to wash the belt/let dry before I put it on? I am just wondering if it makes a difference or if most people just put the belt on the way it comes and roll.
Thanks!
Mark
2011 Apex XTX
Dan,
Nice post! Question - Me and my wife each have an 07 Attak GT which has the 136" track. Since you rode the XTX with the 144 how do you feel it would be different than a 136? Did it push in the corners or did it rail?
I dont know if I can swing it this year - would...
