ALL, At this point i have had more trouble with the 04 than i did with the 03. 2 belts, 3 W-ARMS, replaced all bushings and bearings in skid,5 center idler wheel bearings,1 drive shaft bearing,1jack shaft bearing, 1 track. With that said, i love this sled .The 05 is amazing!!! and i will be ordering one soon.

I'm on the verge of buying an 04 RX-1 (new) and that doesn't sound too bad to me - except for the W-arms.
Did you stick with stock W-arms? Dealer replace them under warranty?
What sort of riding do you do?
Thanks,
Steve

If they put that report in Snowtech, people would be flocking to Arctic Cat.

Why do you say that? I don't think a cat could make it half those miles with twice as many parts needed. Bearings and tracks will fail on any sled, the only issue that concerns me is the W arm. What's the deal with that? I have read many posts about them failing

Go to HCS, Rob the owner put that many on his F7. Don't believe all you hear. A lot has to do with the dealer and rider.

What is it that you guys do to break W-arms? I ride mine like a crazy SOB - I've broken two control rods (one upper and one lower) and shredded two tracks, but my W-arm is perfect.
Anyone who rides an proaction suspension hard through the bumps has or will break a w-arm,when the suspension bottoms hard the w-arm will break.(LB, check yours closely whear the two square beams meet near the rubber bumper) yamaha will warrenty the first up to the dealer for the rest. i am confused with greenmachines post, but the dealer has nothing to do with breaking w-arms. i think people should ride whatever sled they want,i would not ride a/c (i frequently ride long distance and solo) a/c wins every race there in, including the one back to the dealer for parts.Bushings wear, and bearings fail(the jack shaft and drive bearings are sealed) the ripsaw track is great as far as performance but not durability(the "teeth" started coming off at about 5000 miles then lugs then it delaminated(camoplast not yamaha concern).i rarely say negative things about other sleds, people should ride what they want, for me it will be yamaha.i was fortunate enough to have spent considerable time on the 05 and that sled is amazing.
I forgot to mention(though some will not believe) it is still on the original hyfax.Run the track loose and they will wear to a point and stop.

Hey Mighty, the other day we were riding when we stopped for lunch. In pulls a pick-up with an AC in the back. Then we noticed a garbage can strapped to it. My buddy says to the guy" is that cat that bad you have to carry your own garbage can for all the parts that fall off! Should have got a picture! Would have been a classic! Have can will travel! HONK

Yeah VT, I had the skid out about a thousand miles ago to change out the track with 144" and inspected everything *very* carefully. Perfect.
About the track: I believe that ripsaw is a very durable track, just on a machine like this, we tend to stress it more than the footprint would allow - when the track spins, small obstructions can catch on a small area of the track and rip out a small chunk. When you really think about it, to be fair to the track, if you increase the horsepower by 50%, you should also increase the footprint by 50%, that way any particular lug isn't subjected to any more stress than it otherwise would be. My 9923 ripsaw 144 with now 1000 miles is in *perfect* condition - clearly less than the range that your complaints are about, *but* compared to my previous TWO tracks, it is in *far* better condition for the mileage. The 9855 was toast in 1200 miles, the 9833 had chunks falling out of it at 500 miles, but held together until sh** happened and it shredded with 1700 miles.

With that post and the fact your W-arms are still perfect, I bet that my grandma rides tougher than you LB.

VTRX1,
Did you grease any of the bearings as general maintenance during the season? I wonder why the arms broke on this sled, and not on the 03. You haven't been jumping off cliffs have you?

VT RX1, I'm interested in RX1 Yooper's question, as well as wanting to know if you studded your track. If so, how many and in what type of pattern.
I'm assuming you didn't stud, and had excessive track spin?
