Been riding since before xmas on my new (04) warrior without problems. Lately plugs are fouling (after 100 miles), backfiring on start up, lots of carbon on back of sled. Haven't touched a thing! Also; not pulling as hard as it did after 70/80 MPH. Any help would be appreciated! I'm headed north later tonight (w/tools) and local dealer is booked for next two weeks. Gonna try a do it yourself fix!

if the "carbon" is more powdery you are problably running rich.

check simple stuff first ..chock off, air filter clean, air passage not blocked, etc

if all check ok ... then pull plugs and see if all have a problem. Again if powdery black running rich, if wet oily back then burning oil

if burning oil on all check crankcase vent

Gets more serious after this

if you use the choke to much at start up it will ruin a set of plugs in a hurry. As my dealer told me this is not a Fu**ing 2 stroke.Get that choke off as soon as possible.

Also check the choke and make sure it is going to the completely off position. There have been some reports of the choke hanging up and not going completely off.

The technique I use, and I think its exactly what everyone should be doing, is to set the choke between half and full depending on the air temp; crank the sled and as soon as it starts, immediately slide the choke off until the engine almost dies, then move it back on just enough to keep it running smooth. You'll hear the RPM difference...if the choke is on too far, the engine will run too fast. Keep moving the choke off as the engine starts to speed up again (or sooner if possible) to keep it off as far as possible but still let the engine run smooth.

As was mentioned, these aren't 2-smokes. You won't cold-seize the engine by turning the choke off too soon on a cold day. In fact, you won't do any damage by turning it off too soon, except for stalling the engine. But if its on too far for too long, plug life will definately be shortened.

fouling plugs on a 04 Warrior

I went through 4 sets of plugs on my 2004 Warrior. I think it was more $ than my gas. I then cleaned my carbs and synced them and notive the choke cable was not letting the choke fully close. Also I was using 93 oc fuel and now use 89 oc. I think the carb sync and choke cable created my trouble.

Check your pilot jets for dirt. They are clogged easily as they are only at 17.5 - could be it. Starting the sled and shutting it off before it is fully warmed up could also kill your plugs. Both things have happend to mine. I went to 22.5 pilots and 1 3/4 out on pilot screws, and I don't stop it before it is fully warmed up. Well I haven't had that happen again ever since.
