Stator went feb last year. Installed new one from RM Stator this fall and everything checked out great. 1500km this year it went again. Defective stator??? Only extra load from ractory is heated shield wired direct to battery. Battery new this year. No signs of broken, chaffed, or burnt wires anywhere. Am i missing something?? Voltage regulator??? Can it be checked??? Thanks for any help in advance. Jamie

Hi Jamie!

Unfortunately, the stators are just barely large enough.

It is definitely possible that it is barely on the edge & died just like the last one for that reason.

That is why I recommend to anyone that has the issue to have the stator rewound WITH A LARGER CAPACITY.
They can add extra windings and slightly larger wire in it so it ends up much tougher.
(And works better.)
However, you usually have to ask for it when you have it rewound.

If the stator is still under warranty, I would have them rewind it again with extra capacity.

You can check the recifier/regulator with a voltmeter & another regulator.
Check the voltage after the sled warms up & settles down in RPMs.
Turn sled off & exchange regulators.
Start sled & check voltage again at the same RPM & Loads.
If it rises more than 10% (usually much more), the regulator is most likely bad.

The regulator is a 3 phase regulator & one of the rectifiers can be bad (open usually).
That makes it still seem to function ok, yet the load on the other two windings is much greater, causing one to fail, then the other.

Can walk you through some other tests on the phone, if you like.

Send me a PM with your number & I will send mine back.

Hope this helps!

Rock :-o
