My 2006 Nytro keeps burning up the stator.
Sled has 8743km on it and has gone through 1 yamaha stator and 3 from RM Stator in the last 2500km.
The original Yamaha one went at around 6000km. Installed a new Interstate battery and replaced the stator with one from RM Stator(yes I cheaped out) and it lasted about 1000km. There were no signs or symtoms of any type of short. The sled worked like it should. Everything worked, no engine light or code. Just wouldnt crank. Checked resistance and AC voltage, not in spec.
Sled sat for the summer before fixing it in the fall.
Sent it back for warrenty no prob. I checked wiring harness for chaffes and brakes. Nothing found. So I put everything back together, with another new battery and off I went. Thinking maybe it was just a bad stator. That one made it about another 1000km.
Sent it back for warrenty. Again no symptoms or warnings. This time I replaced the rectifier/ regulator and it lasted a day.
I studdied the wiring diagrams over and over and I can not see anything the would cause the stators to burn up like this. From the regulator everything is fused, so if I had a short somewhere it pop a fuse.
I picked up a genuine Yamaha Stator now, ready to install it, I'm looking for some advise or direction so this doesn't happen again. Is there a shop or person I can call and talk to? I'm in southern Ontario and the dealers here are not that helpfull.
Thanks
Jamie

Do you have any aftermarket parts on the sled causing a high current draw??

Sled is completely stock. This time when it fried, grip warmers, heated shield, high beams were not used.
I can not see a connection of the CDI box to the charging system.

He might be referring to what Yamaha calls the "igniter".......us normal folks would call it the ECU.........maybe????
I just had to replace mine on my 06 Nytro because the handwarmers started only working intermittently.

Yes i figured thats what was meant. ECU...CDI...IGNITER all the same idea.
I just dont see how that would reflect on the charge system. But I'm looking for anything.
What about starter solinoid sticking closed after sled has started? Not knowing and is always drawing current from the battery, causing the stator to overload and burn up?

Normally that would take out the starter motor. Send a PM to Rockmeister on here. He sells something called Starter Saver that gives you a visual indication when that happens. That and the fact that he knows most of these ignition systems pretty well. Maybe he can point you to something......
