I did both including a dual rate spring from Hygear. I would say get the heavier spring. The dual rate requires machining so I would hold off until you decide that's required. I actually have a used H.D. spring that I only used for a year before sending the shock to Hygear. Let me know if you are interested. By the way I weigh about the same as you, having the stock spring on clip 3 makes the skid too pogo like.

shock
i sent mine to pioneer with my wieght and riding style they changed the spring and valving. didnt notice much difference. at the time i didnt know about the clip. i would definitely try that first. im not bashing pioneer great service. .

Save your money and move the clip; problem solved (for me it was anyway).

Try the 3rd clip position, when it rides like crap send me a P.M. you can have the spring for the cost of shipping. It will seem ok at first but it will handle like a see/saw.
