Just picked up my first yamaha sled. After riding it last weekend in the UP I have decided to stretch it to a 144.
I am trying to pull the chaincase cover off, I followed the instructions that I have found on here, the 5 bolts and the 2 small bolts. I disconnected the reverse linkage at the chaincase lever. however, I cannot get the cover off. It is free on the bottom half but the upper shaft (secondary?) is really stuck. I have tapped it w/ a rubber mallet and tried wiggling it off with no progress.
I cant see anything that is holding it on, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Did you remove the spacer and o ring on the jackshaft behind the brake disc? If so, only other thing I can think of is maybe the chain tensioner is too tight. Try backing that off.

Yes i did, the culprit was the inner journal of the chaincase cover bearing being rusted on the shaft. Hit it with some PB blaster a few times and gently tapped it off.
