Hi, guys.

I live in finnish lapland, and writing on behalf of my friend.

Hes got a 08 mtx nytro. he flipped it on its side last winter. engine ran until fail code 30 shuts it down. it was on its side max 2min. he got it back up again and started. after 10 kilometers engine dies. connectionrod came out from the cylinder block.

what should have he done to prevent this not to happen.
factory warranty is not covering.

sorry about wrong spelling or writing.

Tip it on the left side to get the air out of the motor and then check the air box for oil because what most likely what happan is that the oil run back into the airbox and sent air into the motor.

let me clear it litle more...

it leaked oil between piston and cylinder. to on top of piston what caused connection rod to bend, and later to break.
or that is the konekesko/importer of yamaha sleds official statement.

So there was oil on top of piston when he started the engine. any idear what route the oil could have gone there.

It sounds amazing that it could have gone thru piston rings in 2 min of time.

so basicly what the importer is saying that he should have known not to start the engine before taking it apart.

Thanks for comments!

The 4 strokes have to have a breather line and that breather line runs to the air box. So when you roll it and it is still running it gushes oil into the box. The bad part is you need this breather hose for the engine to run properly. There are some threads on this if you search. There also is a good solution that I will be trying in the next day or two. A guy on here makes a kit that has a teather so when you fall of it, it shuts the engine off and it closes a valve that is hooked to the breather hose. Also FYI this breather can leak when not running also. The Kits run $150 Hope this helps and good luck getting it up and running!

If they roll over, the first thing you do is shut it off, fast. Then, you have to ensure that the oil did not go into the Airbox. If oil gets in the Airbox, it can get sucked into the cylinder. Once there is oil in the top of the cylinder above the piston, the rod will bend cause the oil can not compress. (Air compresses. Liquids do not compress.)

Bottom Line = if the sled is rolling over, hit the emergency stop button. Then once it is back upright, you have to make sure oil did not get above the pistons. The best way to ensure against this is to remove all sparkplugs and crank it over. With the plugs out, things can not compress. If there is a lot of oil above the piston, it will squirt out, with the sparkplugs out.

It is not very often we hear about this type of engine failure. It is good that we bring this to the forum so that the rest of us can be reminded of this vulnerability from time to time. Good luck with the repair job.

Today we got to see the broken engine. it was at the finnish yamaha importer, it came back to local dealer.

were looking to buy parts from nick LANEO from this forum, he said that he could send parts to finland.

Any other parts sellers i could ask? If laneo sells the engine block that we need?

Trying to get photos on internet too.

Thanks.

Ouch!! I am sorry!!!!
Today I installed the teather with a warning LED and a Oil breather shut off valve. The install was easy and came with good directions, looks well built. I can't ride my sled yet, no snow. I did do a little shop test and it worked like a charm as soon as the teather was pulled the valve shut stopping any oil from leaking out. Everything worked as I expected so far and the install took only about an hour.

Good luck on the rebuild!

Well, ... When you guys do something, you do it with Flare. Too bad these darned things cost so much. Good luck. I wish you and your mechanic well. Happy Holidays.

So, .. Please do tell us more about your switch and valve. Did you take any Pictures as you installed it, etc? Is there a link to the Vendor's product?
