10 Clicks Harder Rebound - No more bottoming on Apex GT

Well, I was stunned ! I increased spring tension to max and my sag was 45mm so I am in spec but at the limit. Went back out on the same 10 miles of junk and it was a little better but still bottomed out a lot. Turned around and went 10 clicks harder on the Rebound Adjustment and it transformed the sled, It was noticeable instantly, I was hitting junk wickedly fast and no bottoming (comp damping was at 1/2 way mark). I must say I can not believe the difference it made. I am 220lb gear on. Thx for the advise guys it worked like I could not believe ! The setting is now 30 clicks hard the maximum and I did not notice any packing down of the suspension and I was hitting some 2 foot junk one after the other !
 

I asume your are talking about the rebound controll on the GT....I think this adjustment is more important than most people realize :Rockon:
 
For what it's worth I feel if you are adjusting the shock valving twist knob tighter than say 10 clicks up from soft you may want to adjust the spring preload tighter, say one or two clicks and than only adjust the valving maybe three or four to make the spring rate and valving more leaneer? JMO
 
Yes the GT, I am telling you 10 clicks more of Rebound Adjustment and this sled is now a weapon in the rough. 10 clicks is minumum, 20 clicks is standard 30 clicks is max and the magic number for me.

I'm still going to go with the proper spring for my weight but it's good to know that the rebound adjustment has that much effect.

He is correct it does make a world of difference.
 
I tried the same thing yesterday and it did make a big difference. It 's worth looking at Ohlins' website too. There's some set-up info for their shocks that is worth reading. They say the shock is what keeps you from bottoming, not the spring. It also says that when you adjust rebound, it changes 90% rebound and 10% compression.

Reaper, I hope you don't mind me changing RA to Rebound Adjustment in your posts as I was confusing it with the other Yamaha shock adjusters.

It's much more fun to use my super moderator powers for this instead of breaking up fights on the playground. :wink:

Reaper, do you have all of your adjustments maxed out on the rear shock then? I am the same weight as you and only have about 40 miles on my GT but I would like to set it up as best I can right now, I have pulled up my limiter a couple notches just to keep my inside ski down when cornering. What exactly does the electronic part of this shock adjust if there are all of these adjustments down on the shock itself.
 
Looking from the left side (sitting) turn the adjuster over the top untill lightly seated then turn it back 10 clicks for max firm, 20 clicks for "standard" and 30 for max soft ;)!
 
What he said plus I have my spring at the max setting they recommend in the book and I run my compression dampening at 1/2 way.
