good to hear brother, hope you don't start blowing belts like some have, man this is starting to sound like the drama we fought with in 12 and 13 with our procross turbos, eventhough they had some of these problems, they also had there share of different ones to boot. I do think these problems will fade away soon, and all we will remember is how sweet this new sled really is..I still have it wrapped at 6-1. I've seen like 115 mph. No marks on the spring. Clutches had a bit of brown on them in one spot.

I'm hoping it will be better at 6-1. Defiantly shifts better. I got 400 miles on at 6-1

Just came back from Munising TY ride and beat the snot out of my sled until I blew a belt.
Friday night - -3 f° Trail groomed 1st mile then some stutter bumps with loose snow. 8JP that was put on after I blew the belt testing with 8 miles on it....so sled had 648 miles on. Ran some 110+ runs, but being nighttime I was not sure about deer. Stopped for late supper and then headed back.
Saturday morning - 11 F°, Groomed and setup trail. 128, 125 and 127 speed GPS, 3 back to back runs. A Modded turbo Suzuki CAT was there and watching. Wanted to see if I would run him. Modded by a well known performance shop.....he didn't stand a chance the way I was hooking up. SW 2, Cat 0!
Knew the clutching was good so I went to the trailer, put the new Thunder Products rollers in because the stock ones had a bunch of flat spots.
Saturday - on and off trail, catwalking like crazy, deep snow thru the trees and non-plowed service roads...then a straight-away that I always use for testing/racing. Ran back to back 120+ runs up and down, turned around, saw an opportunity to stand the thing up in front of some sleds that were sitting just off the trail and WHAM!!! The 8JP with 736 miles blew apart so bad there wasn't a piece larger than 1/2 inch and some string. This was not a Yamaha problem, this was determined by me that I was going to run the snot out of this belt till it blew, and I did.
Where do we go from here? I am machined for coil-bind and beat the ever living snot out of my winder this weekend. Did more cat-walks than can be imagined and just was not nice to that belt. When the belt blew....it was just crazy hot in temperature....but the clutches were warm to the point where I could hold my hands on them for any length of time.

Wow,that is not good news, new rollers, machined pocket and good clutching, and still wham, maybe the standing it on its end all the time is over heating the belt, more than steady WO running, sense it takes more torque to keep standing it straight up,vrs running it on all 3 corners?

I honestly think that no matter what clutch solution develops any turbo owner can still break a belt if they want. It's tons of stress on it. I'm at 600 miles with original belt. It will be replaced at 1000 if it makes it that far no matter how it looks.

I agree. Anyone can snap a belt if they want to hold it to the bar non stop. No brainer if you have ever been on a snowmobile before.
Had a 600 etec with us last week on a 10 mile lake trying to keep up. Blew a belt because he was pretty much holding it to the bar the whole time. No matter the brand or power, people have to respect the sled and conditions.

I've been watching this post closely and would like to add my opinion if I may.
After reading Nos Pro's post, I agree he did give his winder a hot supper, but had he been on an apex, I would wager that nothing would have happened to his belt!!!!
My first 8jp went at 500 miles, I went with an 8dn and have 200 miles on it so far. IMO the 8dn slips more than 8jp, but has stayed together so far because it is tougher belt. I clean and scotch brite my clutches before every ride and develop a ring of black snot at the top of the primary every ride due to slippage at higher speeds.
I'm not a fan of the coil bind hypothesis and here is my reasoning. How can I do 126mph one day, yet blow a belt at 100mph another day? No coil bind at 100mph imo, however clutches get super due to slippage especially when riding in soft snow. Perhaps there is binding due to bushings/helix tolerances, but none of the coils on my secondary show evidence of coil binding.
The magic question is, "What's causing the slippage?" I have a buddy with a 450hp turbo apex, never blown a belt yet. Maybe yamaha should have stuck with the old button secondary?
Has anyone tried button secondary on a winder?

Nos put the secondary from his Viper on his Sidewinder with great results I believe.

Yes, I put the Viper secondary on to try out different helix angles for my setups. The reverse angle I had on is a 40/46 from BDX that Shagman had on his sled from racing asphalt. This is where I knew the reverse angle helix was going to work. But with the roller secondary, the movement is more free so the angles have to be shallower.
Maybe I have to go back to the button secondary for awhile and keep running that secondary to see if it improves. ????

I think I speak for everyone here......your efforts are greatly appreciated and we look forward to hearing any results.
Thanks

Absolutely NOS has done lots of great testing, and he has seen all sorts of things that can add up to a blown belt, but like you said fleecer, the old apex atyle clutching and 8DN belts last a long time.
