100lbs ice in the tunnel

Here is a thought, the tunnels are so rediculously deep on these nytro's you could line it with poly sheeting and revit it on. Snow wont stick to poly.

My tunnel extension is made from UHMW and nothing sticks to it, but the rest of the tunnel is loaded. Been thinking tube chassis and plastic tunnel?

Ice

After thinking about what Lund said. I experimented with 6 mill poly this past weekend and it worked great. I contacted it on. It is starting to come off but was just a test anyway. I am going to try and rivet on black crazy carpet to the inside of the tunnel next

TLRAK and Malmlof, let us know how your paints work. Spraying silicone is pretty easy but once-a-year painting would be even easier. Preventing ice buildup usually equalizes the weights of my Nytro with my brothers doo XM. ;)!

any luck with the crazy carpet experiment???

I've

I didn't try crazy carpet as I couldn't find a black one. Instead I put on a peice of blue skin and it has worked fairly well. I am also trying some spray on leak stop that seems to be very slippery. I haven't tested yet. This summer I am going to change my undertunnel system and put a heat shield over and then coat it with something. Hopefully this leak stop works

Installing a rear heat exchanger works extremely well plus you can eliminate the POS radiator.
Since i have done this mod my Nytro is way better balanced and no longer carries a liner of snow under the tunnel. I'am willing to say my sled is atleast 50lbs lighter at the end of the day then it was before this mod.
Its worth every penny and best mod done to the Nytro IMO.

The newest Viper mtx video showing the weigh-off in the mountains with an xm and a pro demonstrates the advantage of a powder coated tunnel and rails. It had a 100 lbs less snow and ice than the pro in the particular conditions of that day.

I blocked of most of my tunnel with an Aluminum sheet and it worked wonders, tons less snow and ice buildup.

I just found this rust-oleam never wet at farm n fleet last night for only $19.95. I'm going to give it a try & see how it worksi can't post the picture right now so I'll try it again in the morning.

If I could figure out how to find my old post, I'd link it, but here's a picture of the tunnel on my 2011 MTX. I get virtually no snow buildup, and conditions don't seem to make much difference. I run a Yoshi RS-5, and a block off plate and deflector.

IMO, it's mostly the muffler to blame. It has a huge surface that's hot. Combine that with a ton of snow swirling around a very cold tunnel, and you produce a ton of water and then ice. Sticks to everything....everywhere. Undertunnels make it worse. Instead of just the muffler, you are now combining a ton of super hot exhaust gas with all the snow.

Anything you can do to minimize the contact between the muffler and the snow will definitely help.

Funny thing too is the header doesn't seem to have the same "icing" effect as the muffler does and it may be that it's closer to the bulkhead and side heat exchangers so any water produced stays gets thrown forward with the track and runs down the exchangers and away into the snow pack.

OTM
