All the boys got out on lake o bays today...specifically Dwight bay in Dwight On....Near Hunstville in Central Ontario....

Not much snow here yet to ride(8-9") but lakes are now setting up and we were able to get the gun out....

nice grooved out ice/hardpack track....of approx 2000-2400ft.

I ran 2 runs at 120+ mph.....with an earlier run of 118.1mph on the gun, on my 06 rtx.

some others there today....

-07 mach(w/80 miles on it).....118.9
-zr900(chain-NON diamond drive)....121.1(stock???)
-07 F1000.....117.8
-another 07F1000.....115
-2000 SRX.....112
-PSI twin in cat chassis...well setup by local GURU....134+
-several other cats with 1010s ...older chassis lowered...130

Was a decent day all in all...last year best my rtx ran was 116.9 in a much longer distance....SO i think the 23 gearing along with many other tweaks Ive added over summer have helped my apex be the fastest apex(naturallly aspirated) locally so far....very happy camper...

many thanks to you TY boys....Ive shared as many tips as ive used from this site...and I have no doubt its why Im running strong for my first weekend out!

now bring on the snow!

Good job Dan, now you should lose the 23 and get a 40, for less friction, the bend in that chain is too much IMO.... I got something wrong with my second FIX wheel kit today, located in the middle of the skid. I blew both of the wheels in the kit today. It happened at about 40 miles on them, not happy about that. But I had a great day when I raced my buddies F1000 and pulled on him by 3 sled lengths from a 50mph roll on till 115 of the DM, then I let off because we were on a straight stretch on a groomed trail. Not the best place to be racing.

Dan dont you have two teeth cut on your pick up gear,if so how close to your radar gun was it up past 100mph we could only run 104 on the trails yesterday on very loose and dry snow,it pulled like a freight train to 95 and than creeped to 97 and only once hit 104 w/two teeth ground off,and i dont have my gps with me to varifie speedo, but my buds gt would run exzact speed, out on ice road, but in trails he could just finger walk me,we both put our 24 tops back in,but maybe going back to 23 for trails, and i was swinging 84 grms weights at 10,800 .

Awesome Dan!! On the lake I was running on there was lots of slush and snow. Best I could run on the GPS was 99.0 mph in about 2000 feet.
However a little nitrous and it ran 118.6mph on my GPS!!

Oh and in regards to teeth on the speedo gear, I have one shaved off and the speedo was 5 mph high....

120 plus?? Something ain't right. My last run I hit 172.
Oops, you're talking snowmobiles......my bad, with the lack of snow I have Motorcycles on the brain :flag:

congrats buddy, wish I could have stayed longer to see it. I was impressed as it was when you clipped through at 118.1!

Nice work Dan. I guess that 23 top gear works. Did you machine the primary too. Were the conditions just better than the time you ran 116.9 last year. I' ve seen my speeds change from day to day depending on temp, wind and how hard the ice is. Made a few tweeks to my sled from last year too and I hope to join that 120 club soon too.

thanks guys...lots of credit to all you TY boys for all the tricks and tips!

ONLY THING change since last season is.. plugs, windage plates and 23 gear...most other stuff is cosmetic.

Dale from Dalton along with John from Proline is IMO the best setup for these apexs....

Matt, your sled is just awesome buddy!...truly a work of art,and man that thing pulls like a freight train!.

I took primary to machinist today, had it cut to achieve full shift...also did some secondary work, and now clutches will bring belt to top prefectly...it shifts so much further that the screws on windage plates actually hit the frame!..i heard a nasty noise on the stand...so i ground out two small areas of fram edge so it clears...talk about more shiftout!.

My thoery here is that the 23 gearing MOST LIKELY was at its peak(at 120mph) with the stock yamaha overdrive(NON overdrive).....the belt wore of my line on primary about 1/4 inch down at that 120mph speed....

Now,with the newly machined clutch, the belt rides to top easily on the stand in shop....now to test it.

speedo is real close at these speeds.....problem is ,with these sleds and stock shield you have to put head down to one side, and drive one handed to get low enough...LOL..so you cannot read speeds.....this IMO gave me several MPH,as last year i was always trying to tuck head behind handlebar riser but you cannot get low enough....tuck head to left side, and look around side of cowling to see..hehe..but gotta drive one handed to do it!...alittle tricky at 120!..

BTW...when i did peak at speedo,it said 117 when i ran thru at 118....about the most accurate speedo youll find now!...2 teeth is what you need,we proved this last season!

Dan

So you hit 120 on the gun with a 23 and an uncut primary? That is great. I have a 23 39 setup that I was considering putting in but was afraid I would lose top end. Sounds like that will not be an issue if I cut my primary.

hey,

My buddy up here is also running the holtzman kit from barry....Hes also setup to be a NOS dealer apparently,so If you come up this way you will have it if needed....Hes only run it a few times but says it is fast!...hes running 90hp shot like nospro.

I think DANO and I might both order these kits eh Dano?....Jeff is liking his alot and Jonathon, and Nospro also all love it...thats great!.

Id love to feel what 90hp extra feels like!.....Johnathon,have you had it out on radar yet on ice?...im assuming you might want to gear UP with that much hp...maybe a 25 top?..

let me know if youre heading up this way soon..id love to peak at your setup

dan

I just ran a 23 38 on Ulmers chart and with stock clutches running 8700 rpm it comes out at 113 mph. Do you think that the chart is not accurate?
