2006 Attack with stock skid, arms beefed up by www.halfbakedcoatings.com - rails are cracking from the top behind reinforcing plates. I'll post pics later.

Are any of you seeing this happen?

What are you guys doing about it? Replace rails, fix and reinforce existing rails, swap skids?

Ultimately I am thinking of going 151 with tip ups on this sled, but not this year.

ExpertX... oh yeah, I broke that too! Seriously, my only suggestion would be to bite the bullet and do Iceage rails. Jerry's skid is in pieces in my garage right now. It doesn't look good. Bent rails, spider cracks, and you kow the rest. These things are why I gave up on my mono so quickly.

I Had 1/4" plate welded around outside of rails around these locations.. redrilled for bolt holes... so far lasted 3400miles on a 144 track. yes it added 1/2lbs of weight... but really... not an issue.

I've been trying for 2 years, that skid is bullet proof
they have extensions up to 151 inch.

your going to have to slow down. In most places this year not much snow in the trail and we broke a lot of parts but is good for the dealers for part sales.

I was told when I re-valved my suspension, now that the shock is absorbing the rough stuff and not bottoming out, there will be more stress on those spots instead of being transferred to your back.

Here's some pics of mine when I repaired it. They didn't crack anymore but they bent. That's when I gave up and bought a ZX2.

Ice Age rails.

Do you have a bigger picture of your rails. Unfortunately IceAge doesn't have very good pics of the rails on their site.

Actually I would be interested in seeing pics of any IceAge rails out there on Yamahas.

If you would rather email them rgdingman@comcast.net

I am thinking of getting custom Ice Age rails. While I am at it I want to make this sled a lot better off trail. It is not horrible, but I know it could be a lot better. What about getting 144 rails made for the Mono, and setting it back 3.5 inches so I can run a 151. Maybe I should have the rails tipped up behind the rear arm mount too. I am guessing that I need to drop the skid slightly also. This is what I have found with my other projects. I still want to trail this sled mostly, but want to be able to bust up through the trees like I can on the Viper 146.

Post your thoughts - experiences about doing something like this . . .

I built a solid bar that goes between the wheels right behind the crack. It stops the rails from flexing from the load on the wheels. 5,000 km in 2 yrs and no more cracks.
