162 Phazer Now you can call it Mountain!!!!!

Hey PM, can you take a closeup of your front and rear mount points?

My changes are listed below. I setback my skid 4.5" to fit a Nytro 153" track. Looking at your rear arm mount point it looks like it sits even farther back than mine. My rear arm mount point is roughly below the two bolts that the rear bumper mounts to the tunnel.-- 4.5" back from the Mtn Tamer mount hole as per the Mtn Tamer installation instructions.

Made the changes to the Phazer:

Nytro drivers
cut-down Nytro track
anti-stab kit
Home built rear brackets (1/8" aluminum plate)
Mtn Tamer
4.5" setback

Rode it in heavy pow, high moisture content:
Observations:
1. Seemed to lose the "tippy-ness"--for us this was a negative--GF loved the tippyness and "floating" feeling the skis had under acceleration when the Phazer was stock (probably due to the short track setback)
2. slow to initiate roll in

Rode it back to back with a bone stock Phazer.

Thinking ski pressure is too high.

Not enough rear weight transfer under acceleration

Now thinking I'll drop the front mount hole 1" to decrease ski pressure

Also thinking I'll raise the mount hole in the rear bracket (stock Phazer had a much tighter clearance from track to muffler) I have plenty of bracket material to work with

When lowering the front hole, I may be able to reduce the setback-- if this is case, I will reduce the setback.

Mtn Tamer comes with smaller upper idler wheels, thinking of putting larger stock upper idler wheels back in (after changing bearings)-- should be able to reduce the setback after that also.

Keep you posted with the results.

powder muncher,
So i'm trying to figure out all the parts I need to make the phazer into a 162" - here's where i'm at so far:

-162" Maverick from Apex Mountain cut down to 14"
-Intro/Extro driver combo from Apex Mountain
-MPI 4.6" Rail Extension
-1/8" 6061 plate for drop brackets
-Switch to arctic cat adjusters, 2 wheel axle.

Big difference is i'm planning on keeping the stock skid for the time being. Alternatively I have the stock Apex skid I could swap in, but i'm guessing the Phazer one is better.

What should I do with the tunnel? Ditch the snow flap entirely? Or try and fab some sort of tunnel extension?

Just put a 162" apex track on a Phazer Mountain.

I used a 162 " maverick track ported and cut down to 14 " and Apex rails both real cheap to find .

For the suspension I did go with the Mountain tamer set up.

The Apex skid is set back 3" that gives the set up a super shallow approach angle but puts us of the original drop bracket.
(I will build a nicer aluminium one later)

After the first ride I was impressed after the second in the mountains I was amazed.

This is the most gain I have ever had from a mod short of going turbo.

This thing climbs like mad in 2 feet of powder it takes 1/2 the power to get around --she just slides up on the powder.

I had a guy offer me his summit 700 for trade the Phazer easily went everywhere the 6 and 700cc two strokes ( 2003 summit 700) went.
Gearing is stock and the secondary is 10-degrees tightened that is it.

The sled has a few slight mods like a hartman exhaust and Gen. 2 skis but all stock besides that.

For anyone who is frustrated with the stock Mountain Phazer this is your fix --------- my girlfriend totally loves it.

Hey would you mind posting up some more pics? I am very interested in doing this, a few yamaha guys said a longer track on a phazer will kill its power not increase, so i would love to do it and see ha.

This is the girlfriends last year sled a supercharged Phazer with 153 Nytro track and skid. You would be amazed where this will go. Traded it to Coyote Motorsports in Denver this summer and they have it for sale on thier website.

153" track

Murph,

If you decide to go this route with the 153" i have a pull off of an 09 that had 120 miles on it before i swapped it out. In the box and ready to ship.

Let me know,
Joe

What do you want for the 153? Shipped to 56649.

This is mine. 162" 57 mm power claw. skid moved back 3" down 1". Turbo (MCX - broadband lambda - boost 0,8 - different exhaust and a bit homemade stuff). Dynoed it to 142,5, but riding it a bit richer and with lower boost.
Changed the front a bit too, and with small adjustments (still got original dampers all around) got it to turn and ride pretty perfect.
