Hi guys Im getting an 06 Apex GT next week and am wondering if there are any issues to look for ? Ive been riding smokers since dirt was new and this is a fresh start . Im pretty exited from what ive seen and heard so far . So any tips or ideas would be great to hear . Also wondering what you guys do for exhaust work as i am not the type of person to be satisfied with stock .

Not much to worry about. Just check it over to make sure its in good condition and hasn't been abused. As for exhaust work... don't waste you $$, there's nothing to be gained except tickets for excessive noise. 2-smokes gained from exhaust, but they're a lot more sensitive to exhaust due to the way they release their exhaust.

Get the shock rebuilt/revalved for your riding style by someone like pioneer, hygear, etc.

There are quite a few things too look for you you are not familar with the sled

Worn out front and rear suspension bushings..

Worn out stearing bushings

Rear shock either being blown or having a broken shock wire..

Hand warmers not being warm ( look for posts on this)

Cracked or broken Rear suspension arms

Chain case chain being loose, or needing fluid

This is all assuming the sled is used of coarse.

I have a 2007 Gt and love it, i know that the 2007 has updates over the 2006 which are....

-chaincase cover
-shock valving
-mudflap
-handlebars
-extra tunnel braces

I have 1800 miles on my GT and i love it!!! Not an ounce of touble.

Be prepared for engine braking. Once you get use to it you will probably like it but be aware of it when you stand up for the first time. I almost went over the handlebars the first time. I hardly use my brake anymore due to the engine braking. If you don't like the engine braking I was told that adding the Ulmer clutch kit will mimumize it. Darting is a problem with these sleds as well. Excell makes a good exhaust, 5 hp in midrange and 2 hp on top. You will also loose about 13 lbs. of weight in the rear and it sounds awesome. I was told by the President of the MSA; Don Reed, that the Excell will pass the noise requirements here in Michigan. You should fill out your location, site rules.
