This is my 1st sled so here's my take for others without experience thinking about getting a Nytro MTX.
Be careful. This sled for me was astonishingly fast. I'm coming from a motorcycle background and own a 07 Yamaha wr450f w/ AIS kit and a 03 Suzuki GSXr 600. Those 2 machines did nothing to prepare me for the Nytro. The power and torque was insane, and anyone who gets on one of these as their 1st sled should bring a whole lot of restraint and common sense to the task of learning to ride.
In the powder the power seemed entirely controllable. By the end of the day I was able to enjoy carving through 8-10 inches of fresh powder without much concern. The trail however was soft partiallly packed snow with several inches or so of softer snow on top. I was immediately aware that the Nytro was capable of pulling much harder than I was prepared for. Very minute increases in throttle produced acceleration that i couldn't have imagined was possible. In all honesty I don't believe I got the thing much over 40 miles an hour all day but for me 25 felt like 50+.
On the trail the front seemed to track all over the place. No room for anything except total focus. Near where we unloaded the surface was very hard and the sled wasn't able to pull anything like what I described before. Its not designed for a packed trail this was obvious. This thing belongs in soft snow and that's where I plan on keeping it.
Put about 25 miles on it and literally cannot wait till the weekend to go again, unless it dumps here in town in which case I can ride it after work in the foothills near my house.
So that's my take for all the newbies like myself considering this as their
1st sled. On soft but packed snow it will try to pull your arms out of their sockets and track a bit wildly so hang on. In deeper snow it will handle like a dream. On hardpack its 2.25 tall lugs just won't hook up or offer much fun. As its name implies, this is a mountain sled and thus for me exactly what I wanted. For a newcomer to the sport this thing requires a level head and a firm grasp. It pulls very hard....be ready! This coming from someone with zero snowmachine experience prior to yesterday.

It would be a waste of potential....stock Nytro is plenty fast for someone in my category, although i can imagine the benefits of a turbo in deep snow...that would translate nicely no doubt.

Great Report!

The ski darting issue with Yamaha skis is nothing new. There is a fix in the tech section on this site where you put shims under the rear of the ski mounts. Also, I have read that Studboy Deuce wear bars make the the skis track as straight as an arrow. They are on my list for this season but I haven't put them on just yet.

Best of luck and welcome to the wonderful world of snowmobiling.

Think snow!

I put the Stud Boy Deuce bars on a phazer, and man was that the wrong thing!!! I took them off after the first ride. Just robbed way too much power and made the sled handle very heavy.

I do plan on trying the deuces on the FXNytro MTX. Has anyone tried them yet?

I know how you feel my first sled was a 04 warrior, scared the crap out of me first time out.The Nytro is a much better way to start out handles great and is actually quite slow, only been able to hit 108km/h, warrior would do 180km/h before handling became a issue. ;)!
