Hey All,
I have a Grizzly 600 That won't crank. The bottom line as far as I can see it that the yellow/black wire that provides a ground to the starter cut-out relay does not get a ground from the CDI box, so no power gets to the starter solenoid via the blue/white wire. I have a known good CDI, and when switched out, same thing. If I apply manual ground to wire(Y/B), starter spins, engine cranks, but still no start. That takes me on to the pick-up and source coils, and the pick up coil has about 3.15M ohms, way out of spec. Source coil is right on the money. I can see that I need a new pick-up coil for the purpose of getting spark, but will that keep the machine from cranking? I got this thing from a repo man, so I do not have any other history about its 1132 miles. I have the factory book on CD, but it doesn't give a good schematic as to the ins and outs of the CDI box. Doesn't it have to have a power source other than the two coils in the stator? If so, where does it come from? Checking the wires at the connectors of the CDI box do not indicate there is any power there. I have used stabilant on every wire and connector this machine has, but still I get a big ZERO.
I am pulling my hair out on this thing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thomas

Correct.
Reminder: Y/B also originates at the CDI Box.
Thank you,
Thomas

it really sounds like a source coil...give Larry at North Country Yamaha a call, he can help you and give you a great price on any parts you may need. He is awesome with these kinds of problems. 715-453-2626.
