Did all 2006 Apex come with 100% antufreeze? I also just checked mine and the coolant tank is empty, is it just the tank empty or is the cooling system empty? as someone on here pointed out to check.

Before I top off the coolant, thought I would check as I can dilute my coolant now by adding straight water to the tank.

Thanks

If you have not yet added water and you are the only owner on the sled, chances are you have either 100% or a high level of antifreeze. say greater than 60%. I would just top off the bottle with water (distiled) while it's running until it's at the mark. Then run it around a while and check the mixture. If you are in doubt or your tester just buy a premixed bottle of 50/50 mix and check that. Use that as a reference. 50/50 is good to something around -40*F. I don't know about you but I have yet to see that. Not saying some don't, it's just that I don't and would benifit more from the better cooling effect of the 60/40 or 50/50 mix. Main thing is mix it for the absolute worst conditions you will see plus 10 or 15 more degrees in the negative and you should be safe.

I checked many 2006 and 2007 Yamaha sled all are at 60/40 just like Yamaha spec. says. I don't believe they come with 100% from what I see.

100% came in my 06 Apex ER. I think the dealers know about it too. i dropped mine off to get the idlers replaced and some other work done. I mentioned it to the service guy and it didn't seem like I was telling him anything he didn't know.

Thanks.

I am going to pick up a tester today to check what is in it before adding anything.

I dropped it at the dealer this am to have the 6.5 spring installed and asked if he new anything about it. Said he had never heard of that but would do some checking?

I doubt they come at 100% too, but I've seen 3 that came with much more than 60/40.

BTW, I noticed in this thread you said you measured some at 70/30...

I have check my sleds with a refractometer type checker and the are within the factory spec. which is 60/40. You cannot use the cheap tester if you are look for true readings for the coolant. It would be like using a $5.00 torque wrench. The highest i found was 70/30. If you buy your coolant from Yamaha it's at 60/40. Never had over heating problems even with my Turbo sled with 60/40...

After reading some additional posts on this topic, I called the dealer where my sled is and asked if they had a refractometer they could check it with. He said they did and would check it. I will let you know what they say when I pick it up.

Thanks!

I emptied nearly a gallon out of mine....topped back off with distilled water and half a bottle of WATER WETTER(redline)......and my meter now shows about 50/50 or so....

IMO,all APEXs came with 100% coolant,I know mine sure did,and it overheated untill i did this...

also,im adding rear exchanger this season for long lake running in low snow conditions, the $55 bucks is cheap insurance when running in low snow....

be sure to get air all out of system too,and dont worry if the little tank where you add coolant is low or empty,no matter how many times i got mine to level there,it would be gone after a few HOT rides...just be sure the bigger main tank has some in it and keeps it level over time.
