Last fall I bought a leftover 2007 Apex GT and am very happy with the sled, but have noticed something that I never experienced with my two stroke sleds. I don't believe 2 vs. 4 stroke makes any difference in this, but my dealer said this is typical of 4-strokes. So here it is... If I grab the brake lever hard enough to lock the track and slide to a stop, when I get back in the throttle, the belt makes all kinds of squeeling and thumping noise. My thought is that the secondary isn't shifting out fully under braking causing there to be alot of slack in the belt. When I get back into the gas, the belt slips and jumps it's way to the top of the secondary.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix?
Secondly, I'd like to tame this 150 hp machine a bit in the twities, as that's where I do most of my riding. I also find myself `waiting` on the clutch to engage when I get back into the gas in the tight turns. I think if I can drop engagement RPM a bit it will shift better for my riding style. So, typically lighter primary spring or heavier weights or some combination of both. Does anyone have a setup that works for what I am trying to accomplish?
This heat wave is killing me...can't wait for the white stuff to make a return!

the thing i like most of that machine is compression you let go the throtlle all the way and it feel like braking,,,just before a twisty ,sliding occurs,,with 108 pin to,,,then back on the right hand thumb to take off,,,, almost never use the brake unless to turn the light on ,,,,but try clean your clutches...bye

Yes, it's normal for the belt to stay down in the secondary after locking the track up and coming to a full stop. Trick is to let off the brake prior to the sled becoming stationary. As mentioned, clean the clutches. I certainly never have to wait around for my sled when whacking the flipper. If I'm riding real hard in the twisties, I stay into the throttle deep into the corner, give the brake a tap or two while still staying into the throttle lightly, once in the "apex" of the corner, I come back into the throttle hard, all the while I stay up on the tank. Most can't stay with me when I ride the sled this way.

Guess I wasn't thinking the clutches would be dirty since the sled had zero miles on it when I bought it last fall. Maybe from sitting around since 07 there was some surface oxidation. I'll give cleaning a try. Any thoughts on the best was to clean them? I've never done anything more than blow the crap out of the primary with compressed air on my two strokes.
Schmeg, I hear what you are saying, makes sense that if the secondary clutch is locked up under braking the secondary can't backshift, just seems strange I've never experienced this before on any other sleds.

Just so you know youre going to want to update your locations on your profile before an admin tell you. Also, I think just soap and water works well to clean the clutches along with a scotch bright dish washing sponge. That is all I have ever used and works great for me.
