Checked mine and flow was same with and without check valve. Mine idles low after I've been riding for a bit and come to a stop and let it idle. If I shut the sled off and start it up again it usually idles as the normal 1500rpm.

At this mileage im sure you have some carbon build up in the engine,more then when it was newer..try doing a de-carbonizing. yamaha and also sea-foam have some liquids that will help.worth a try..
