2007 Attak GT
Recently picked up 2007 Attak GT with 9K miles. The steering column bearings were shot so tore down for inspection repair. While apart inspected flex to Y pipe clamps/donuts.
I have not been able to ride unit yet. I tried to obstruct both exhaust with "rag" and I could stall engine, didn't sound like donuts were leaking.
When I pulled heat shield off to inspect I noticed that the Y pipe hanger bolts were Hex head and not the Allens that seem troublesome. I assume the donuts and Y pipes have been removed at some point. I took pics of the joints. There appears to be welds distal to flanges on the two outer pipes and the two central pipes look different?
Can somebody give me an idea of what the most likely explanation for this repair was?
The clamps are tight on the donuts. I didn't want to loosen clamps to see if copper donut was installed for fear of creating a leak. Basically, should I leave it alone or investigate further.

The titanium pipes were prone to cracking. It appears that someone did some tig welding on the y pipes. The welds are in an area where they typically crack.

Those allen head hanger bolts are a pain! If they were replaced with hex heads someone did you a favor. Ha

Those look like they could be the replacement flanges that can be bought off ebay and welded in place.

They definitely look like welded cracks in the usual broken flange location. I would take the clamps off to look only because you are that far in. If they look good I would bolt it all back up and forget it until she starts shooting flames out the pipes.

After looking at them a second time those are definitely welded cracks. I forgot the pipes had that expansion just before the flare. It's been so long since I've had mine apart after I put in the coppers donuts. ABD (accumulative brain damage)

Thanks guys, confirmed what I was thinking.

Double-check the Y-pipe hanger bracket isn't loose either, or you'll really have problems. What I mean by that is: The Steel rivets wear through the top layer of the tunnel, enabling the bracket to shift around. You are at the mileage this starts happening. Look for over-sized holes, around the rivet heads. The picture seems to indicate some wear going on there - Good luck.
