2007 Phaser - Valve Adjustment, does this make sense

I have a 2007 Phaser, had had it since new - its been a great sled for the kids. Well all good things come to an end and we had one hell of a year with it last year - in the shop every weekend but one, invested $3k in it and at end of the still had a problem. The dealer has had it since March (nice of him to store it for the summer!) while he tried to sort out the problem (would flash error codes 25/26 and once warm would hesitate terribly with some backfire). Anyway he just got back to me to say that they have spoken with Yamaha and have concluded the vale timing is messed up and said they needed to pull the engine to fix the problem. Given all the work that has been done and the cost I asked for an estimate, dealer has yet to get back to me but indicated he would try to do it during his slow time.

Anyone else have this issue? Even though there are about 7500kms on the sled, the need for a valve adjustment is a bit surprising.

Without knowing the whole history kind of hard to figure what went wrong.Possibly someone turned engine backwards.Anyway to answer your question. No I cant think of anyone needing a valve adjustment.Ever.

Thanks, never heard of it either. Not much more to report re:history - sled caughs real bad once it is warmed up, throughs the codes noted and has been in a few times for the same problem. Dealer tells me they diagonsed the problem along with a yamaha factory tech - that siad it just doesn't add up to me. Will see what his price quote is and go from there.

25 and 26 is the most common code reported.99% of time it is just the hoses going to sensors werent installed after a oil change. This would cause your exact symptoms. Its possible your dealer doesnt know what he is doing and hosing you. Those codes have nothing to do with jumped timing.

My brother has 3500 miles on his 2007 Phazer & 1 exhaust valve was out of spec . = hard starting . Probably a brain fart on the assembly line ! Still trying to get it back together ; not an easy task ! Would cost a fortune @ the dealer ; if they could even do it !
