Well, I spent a couple hours riding the new iron yesterday. Here is what I came away with.
150hp sleds. Basically unchanged from last year with the exception of the expanded GT series and the new skid in the RTX. The GT Attaks were sweeeeeeeet. The shock calibrations felt much better than the 2006 GT, and the adjustment on the bars is awesome. The new RTX flat out rocked. Better weight transfer, and you could really pre-load the suspension before a jump or mogul. Plus it transfered weight better than the Mono. Not quite as plus feeling as the mono, as you could feel the bumps more, but better control in the big junk.
120hp sleds. Again, basically unchanged with the exception of the expanded GT lines. Solid sleds line-up. I forgot how fun the Nytro was until I rode it again.
Phazer sleds. WOW! Those things are a riot! It reminded me of riding a Raptor ATV with a track and skis. Great acceleration and very easy to drive. You could throw it around with ease, and whether standing or sitting, you could rip through the trails. There will be no sled that will stay with this thing in the tight trails. Speedo saw 90 on the lake, so even if it is as optimistic as other Yamahas, it is still an 80+mph sled. No problem running on the lakes, running, not racing. I might get one of these sleds just to have for those nightly rides where you go out exploring or just rippin' up the ditches. This sled really brings a smile to your face. It sounds like a quad or dirt bike, and really feels like own with it's rider position. I can tell you this, I had 2 Phazers when I was younger, and they were a blast. The 2007 Phazer makes that fun I had on the old Phazer seem like a convention of encyclopedia writers. The 2007 Phazeer is a flat out BLAST to ride, even for my 38 year old frame. I can't imagine how much fun the younger generation is going to have on this sled. Polish up your riding skills men, If you run up against a good rider on the trails with this sled, your going to have your hands full no matter what your riding.

When will we see non-dealer reports? At 80 HP, I find it hard to believe 800 ho Revs and F7's have anything to worry about when they weight about the same and have almost twice the HP.

There seems to be a lot of people whining about an 80 hp sled. Who wants one? Only about a million people. For many regions, RX-1's are found at the back of the pack (too heavy). A fast trail sled needs good acceleration, not top speed. Would you want your wife or 17 yr old kid on a 120 or 150 hp sled?
If you need more hp, just wait. If you look closely at the Phazer, there is far too much engineering to "waste" on a single model line. The engine bay looks like it has a bit of room to spare. There may be a reason why the 120 hp sleds received no upgrades this year.

Let me offer a bit of insight. Every year for the past several years the snowmobile market has decreased, less sleds being sold every year. One way to slow down or reverse that slide is to bring new people into the sport. Yamaha is hoping this sled will bring new people into our sport, that is a good thing!

Excellent report Drifter! Personally, I didn't care for the old Phazer...I had a 90 Indy 500 SKS and it would destroy the Phazer in every condition. I know, it is unfair to compare a fan to a liquid. Several of my friends had Phazers of all kinds. Yes, it was an unbelievable machine when it came out in 83 or 84 whenever it was. Well ahead of it's time.
The new Phazer is a whole new animal and your report confirms that. 80 horse is alot. It's true, there won't be much that will hang with it on any tight twisty groomed or rough bush trail. You can only go so fast on a tight twisty or rough trail so hp doesn't mean that much (80 vs 150) imho. Straight stretches and the lake is only where this machine won't hang, but who cares. This is why I have a mountain sled and a SRX so I can go play AND go fast.
From what I have been reading, this machine will be the "second" machine to have a blast on because people won't give up their high hp sled. Well, I wouldn't be surprised that the "second" machine would rack up more miles than the so called "primary" sled.
Anyway, this machine is an engineering marvel.

No kidding a 75? Hp. L.C. 500 could easily handle the 56 Hp Fan Phazer on Canada's wide open trails...... who'd a thunk it ! ? ! I still have the 90 Phazer II that I used to run against my buddies new 1990 121" 500 and he'd pull away after 100' in the open but, I would Always make him look like a beginner on the trails we have here in Pa.
