a quick storey/history of my nytro.......(and maybe my midlife crisis if you ask the wife)
WINTER 2009/2010
bought 2009 nytro xtx used (1500kms) February 2010 for $ 9,000.00 ca
-rode stock (except snow trackers....aggressive)
-mirrors added inside handguards
WINTER 2010/2011
-Yamaha heaters with boost
-copper donuts
-trail tank
-skinz float plate
WINTER 2011-2012
-excel o/s wheel kit (8 wheel kit)
-Yamaha marginal snow wheel kits (2)
-4 wheel axle kit (home made....Yamaha wheel & hacksaw)
-relocated tail light (just for looks......same location as short track)
-stainless steel drawer pulls for luggage attachment points
WINTER 2012-2013
-redo entire front end (bushings, ball joints etc...lots of $$$......should have bought a new front end from skniz)
-star suspension linkage kit
-star suspension billet pull rods
-hygear torsion spring spacers
-fox float X evol front shocks (back door race parts) used parts
-fox float center shock 9back door race parts) used parts
-OFT steering relocation kit (used parts from TY classifieds)
-new snow trackers (semi....like them way better than aggressive)
WINTER 2013-2014 (summer project)
-skinz 42" front end kit (used parts from TY classifieds)
-gusseted sub-frame (used parts from TY classifieds)
-mountain tech aluminum skid plate (used parts from TY classifieds)
-mountain tech vented dash kit(used parts from TY classifieds)
-timbersled "mountain tamer" kit (using stock rails & wheels) float 2 center shock & fox float x evol rear shock
-shimmed/relocated rad (homemade mod)
-service fox float x evol front shocks
notes..... i had it really good till middle of last winter, until I installed the float x evol front shocks and realized how amazing they are & then the rear end didn't feel so good (balanced). this resulted in search for a new rear skid/or mods to bring it up to par with the front end. i decided to upgrade the old nytro again instead of buying a new viper......AND THINGS GOT TOTALLY OUT OF HAND....resulting in the crazy list for this summer.
Special Thanks to the following:
hibshman25 (used parts......able to buy more stuff for the same money i had in the budget)
Jason @ T.S. (parts & info)
Jon @ HG (info & setup)
Spence @ 2KP (parts)

Man you are building THEE SLED!,!
I am glad we are not neighbors or I would be out a lot of $ as that sounds fun....enjoy the great sled when your done or should I say at the next stage or plateau?
Isn't it great to not have to worry about the motor and drive train being able to last so you can enjoy the mods to the sled?
Enjoy

Mr Sled.... I will have to try attaching pics to this during the summer work but, up till now it almost completely stock except for tail light relocation (stock light moved to the short track mounting location.... I think it looks better there and doesn't seem to get covered over in snow as much.
ps....you guys have a great site!!!

Do you have any pictures of how you relocated that light? I am interested on how you did that.
Thank you for the compliments on the site and thank you for becoming a lifetime member!!

thanks....to all the posts on here (and lots of time reading) I feel confident I got all the right parts the first time. I will be posting pics of work when started, excited to contribute a little bit to the site and maybe someone will like it when its done.
as soon as I am finished pimping out the pontoon boat, the sled work will begin (have 2 to do this summer.....now)
I still have to pick up a few parts I had shipped to a US address.

pics of a couple small things done previously
MIRRORS- I ride almost exclusively in Quebec and they are strict about mirrors and modified exhausts around the cottage. I found some cheap mirrors at automotive supply store (Canadian Tire) the kind that stick to you car/truck mirror. they didn't work so good at first (but i was legal) but when i installed the OFT relocation kit, now it works great. the mirrors i found fit right into the formed ribs of the hand guards and put two stainless metal screws through the from of the handguard and into the rear of the mirror housing.
LUGGAGE BAG ATTACHMENTS- I had a problem with trying to install a Yamaha saddle bag/soft luggage on my nytro xtx because the straps would not attach (too short) to the rear bumper. I found some kitchen cabinet handles at a hardware store and put them on to attach luggage straps. I did this a few years ago and can't remember if I had to drill any hole or just used existing holes.
TAIL LIGHT RELOCATION- basically relocated the taillight to where it is installed on the short track, I like the looks better, and in seemed to help with snow and ice on it also.
NOTE: all the above have been crash tested and passed with flying colors. also each of the mods cost under $ 20 (other than the OFT part of the mirror mod.....but, its well worth the money IMHO)

SOME MORE OF LAST WINTERS MODS:
FOX SHOCKS-
a shock package that i picked up used (special thanks to my buddy Trevor for these.....)
the float x evols are truly amazing shocks, and the reason why this summers mods list so big. i had really good suspension last year, and had a sampling of truly great suspension with the float x evol shocks (and a ride on a couple of quick rides on trail converted race sleds).
installation of shocks was pretty straight forward other than having to file a very/very small edge off fox center shock (same place as stock one was showing some wear). Also having purchased the shocks used the heim joint spacers and spacers/sleeves didn't come with the shocks. i surfed the fische from Yamaha and found that all the fox shocks available on the sleds (from Yamaha factory) have same part numbers, so i ordered them. i could have put the bushings into the front ones but, really wanted to use heim joints. it took a while and i ended up having a buddy machining a set (with lots of spares). i ended up using four of the front end bushings and the stock sleeves to install the center shock in the skid (worked perfectly). it should be noted at this point i actually got luck and the float center shock was the exact length Star suggests for their kit.
while skid was out for annual maintenance i installed the Star linkage kit and billet pull rods (lots of info on this kit on site so........ i liked it a lot), also installed Hygear torson spring spacers and new torsion springs. along with the summer maintenance,,,,,new slides and new idler wheel bearings, skid tear down/clean/lube of the entire skid,
i also had the front end rebuilt by a local mechanic (Yamaha tech) as i was crazing busy at work and had no time to do myself. he was to install new oilite bushing kit and completely rebuild front end including ball joint (oilite)rebuild everything. long story, short he rebuilt the front end using all stock Yamaha parts (plastic bushings & stock ball joints) and gave me other parts back, as he didn't feel comfortable installing non-Yamaha parts into sled???
NOTE; suspension was really good with stock front shocks (i didn't get the floats on till end of season) and probably would have remained like that if i wouldn't have put the float x evols on the front.
so the rear skid ran last year was the following: 4 wheel axle kit, excel o/s wheel kit (8 wheel kit) 2 sets of marginal snow wheels, star linkage kit and billet pull rods, hygear spring spacers and new torsion springs and new slides and bearings etc...
included a few pics of above.

Did I see a Polaris cover? Shame on you.... your next mod should be a Yamaha cover!!

I WAS HOPING NO ONE WOULD NOTICE THAT..... my old switchback cover fits like a glove. the nytro isn't aloud to leave the shop wearing it, hate to have laughed at and made fun of, also rather spend the $250.00 for new cover on mods instead.
the switchback is whole other VERY LONG UNHAPPY STORY, I'll just say everything polaris has liquidated from my procession and will never buy another polaris anything....with the exception on my oulaw quad beacause its mostly KTM anyways and slowly replacing any/all poor quality stuff with aftermarket stuff anyways. most of my issues have to do with local dealer (if you could call him that). note.... It was pretty pimped out also similar to the nytro when done this phase.
