2009 Vector another problem...

Hey man do it yourself I had mine out in less than two hours. Contact kevin at PORTYAMAHA he will treat you right on new starter. Only thing you might have to wait, mine came out of calif.

I have considered PortYamaha. I have a top notch business down the road that rebuilds starters and alternators. Might see what they think about it. That would probably cut the time waiting for the new part.

I am hoping to have it ready for this weekend.

That was my thought too. No reason it should be any different than rebuilding a car starter. I'd be interested to hear what is failing on these. Are the armatures shorting? bearings failing? brushes wearing out?

Maybe I will take it apart and see what failed when I get the parts back. If the starter pinion gear wasn't messed up a little, I would have highly considered it.

I guess they might even had a replacement gear on hand, but I am leaning towards OEM right now.

Fondy Electric is highly regarded around here.

Vector is back on the trail. Want to thank everyone who gave advise and big thanks to steiner for the short cut of getting to it without having to pull the motor.
Hello -- what was the short cut in getting at the starter motor? -- do you have steps to share that would help in getting at the starter motor without haveing to roll back the engine?

You're probably better off creating a new post vs resurrecting a 12yr old post. More th an likely, the short cut the OP eluded to is in fact rotating the motor rather than having to pull it. I remember someone else inquiring about what was involved with having to replace a starter on their Vector and they too stated the same, rotating the motor allows best access vs pulling it. Here's the post.
