Hey man do it yourself I had mine out in less than two hours. Contact kevin at PORTYAMAHA he will treat you right on new starter. Only thing you might have to wait, mine came out of calif.

I have considered PortYamaha. I have a top notch business down the road that rebuilds starters and alternators. Might see what they think about it. That would probably cut the time waiting for the new part.

I am hoping to have it ready for this weekend.

That was my thought too. No reason it should be any different than rebuilding a car starter. I'd be interested to hear what is failing on these. Are the armatures shorting? bearings failing? brushes wearing out?

Maybe I will take it apart and see what failed when I get the parts back. If the starter pinion gear wasn't messed up a little, I would have highly considered it.

I guess they might even had a replacement gear on hand, but I am leaning towards OEM right now.
