2010 AK sled projects

I've got my limiter strap up one hole now so Im going to loosen that up then see how it is but I'll drop it if I have to.

Thanks for the link Brian, pretty cool stuff and cheaper than using Argon. I haven't had to back purge anything yet but I'm sure the day will come. I didn't want to weld on the upper bushing mount as it makes the aluminum soft, so I riveted some pieces of angle instead. I'll clean up my trim job on the plastic when I get everything back from PC.

Ok so I made my new drop bracket extensions, Since mine are tubular it would have been a major pain to make new ones. The smart way to do this would have been to just plate my existing brackets with some .100" aluminium and come down just bellow. Then turn down my cross shaft .100" on each side. But since I have a mill now I decided to spend probably 10 hours making them. I started with 1/2"x6" flat stock and basically milled it down 1/4" on the top on one side and 1/4" on the bottom on the other to basically make a offset so I could keep my standard cross shaft.

working with It flipped over now and I milled down the small section to .250 now and I am just cutting it out.

A couple pictures of them clamped in place. There are a few things I would like to change but for the first time ever using a mill they will work great.

Will get my header mount welded on tomorrow as I had some issues with the back purge today, once thats done the exhaust can go in. Bolt in my new drop brackets, install the skid and go ride. I also have to stick my stock battery in since my 10s went bad last ride. But the good news is that it waited untill I went to unload it off the trailer at home so it didnt reck the day and they have a new one in the mail.

rlcofmn, Looks like you do good work. I wish I had the tool you do. How many hours of work do you have in your sled? Do you have plans to boost it? How often to you ride because it looks like you're working on your sled all the time? You should try to build your own sled from frame up.

I try to not work on my sled at all in the winter thats why I ride a Yamaha, But this winter has been rough on broken parts. So I have been working on it all the time, I hate missing a weekend in the winter so I am trying to make sure all the bugs I have had this year are fixed and I can start focusing on making it better not just fixing it so I can ride.

Basically the problems I am addressing are,
Broken header, Cracked two pipes out of the collector of my excell so I decided to build my own.

Modifying my anti stab kit, My wheels are hitting the nubbs causing track drag

lowering my skid to clear the exhaust, had bad track hitting exhaust issues

new muffler hanger, to better support the muffler but also keep my track slap from catching the tip

new ss muffler packing, since I go through fiberglass in a few rides

rail braces, since I have bent a total of 5 rails this season

I think thats about it haha then its time to get back to riding the piss out of it. Hopefully this week off of riding will take care of all my issues.
I should have it done today.

Ok here are a few pictures, I decided to call it a night but its almost all back together.

mounting the drop brackets, Using a rule from the front mount to get my center to center length. I did end up dropping my front arm down 3/4 of a inch as well. With the limiter straps out now it hits the front of the skid about a 1/2 inch before the rear if you lift it then set it down so I think it should be able to keep the ski's up just fine even with lifting the rear 2 inches.

Added one cross brace and rail Sno pro (race sled) rail braces to my skid to hopefully make these rails last since im out of spares.

Just have to stick the stock battery in, put the seat and tank cover on then she's ready to go. I may go do a little clutching tomorrow and see what my new header did to my rpm's.

The HCR rail braces will fit the 141 rails. I don't have a part number for them but the Cat dealer should know.

I am running that cross shaft under the bump stops. Just went through my Photobucket account and found this pic.

I thought about turning some copper ones, im kinda worried that with the springs if all 3 of my pipes are not perfectly inline It will put more pressure on 2 and none on 1. I was thinking with the stockers It would maybe just wear into them a little till they are all making a good seal. I did everything I could to get them perfect I was just keeping in the back of my head that they may not be. Here is a shot of it installed in the sled.

I was goig to pull it apart next week and see how the doughnuts are holding up with a couple hundred miles on them, but I may very well be interested in trying some copper ones.
