2011 Apex Dyno #'s ?

From what Yamaha told me there isn't much hp on top it's just there is no dips in the dyno curve like the original (2006-10)motor,This one is solid steady line .So there is no dead spots.

And they know this based on how the pre-production sleds dyno'd or on how they expect the post-production units to run?

If the former, why not let out the dyno numbers? If the latter, why tell people this when they don't know it is true?

Not busting your chops - but by telling you this they are marketing. Marketing is not engineering, and when I think tuning forks, I think engineering.

First off Yamaha is not known for blowing smoke up your but's. If you look at the past few year's Yamaha has called the new sled's 130hp class,120hp class,150 hp class, etc. Production unit's were making there claim and then some with the Nytro making 135 to 138 in the (130 class), 2010 Vector was claimed around 126 and production unit's were around 130. Every one gets all wound up in hp number's and there is a lot more to it. How it works in the field is what counts. I highly doubt that G-Force dynoed the sled they had. I have worked closely with G-Force with the Yam-Charger and i can say one thing for sure they are very good honest people and they would not break Yamahas trust. Doo can claim 164 hp on the 800 E-Tec bla bla bla. Watch and see, It will have a hard time running with the 11 Apex even though the power to weight ratio will be better. Two stroke power, Four stroke power. There is a difference. One thing i can not under stand is any one claiming a specific hp on preproduction units because thing's do change in production. kviper

I don't know to me it still comes down to two main differences that you can look to the past for:

1. Four stroke torque, while PEAK torque and HP may sound really flashy on an e tec, one feel/look at the four stroke powerband and you understand why the four stroke performs how it does.

2. HP to track is not what manufacturers display, I obviously don't know and am not going to pretend to know, but the 800R motor had more HP than the Apex and did not put it to the ground half as well as the Yammi, thus the Yammi (generally) walked away.

To me this the debate will be answered in December (or sooner) but then...but then again it will by my etec walked away from an 11 Apex, and my Apex left the etec in the dust, so I don't know maybe I am just wasting my time. :o|

Awful lot of changes to motor related components (=costs) for 7 H.P. Had the pleasure of airing out an XTX on the flat top unsupervised. I'm betting over 160. Midrange is wicked!

I have to agree, i'm thinking real #'s are much better then 7hp. The new sled has alot more torque.

My uncle went to the spring official tries for Yam sellers in Qc, They tries 2011 Vs 2008-2010....a good 2010 stock with a good clutch setup run a bit better than the 2011 on acceleration.
Did you know that 2010 are maybe 2-3hp and 2-3Lbs/torque more powerful than 2009 and later?....cuz of the exhaust design for 2010...for sound-law.
A 2010 sounds a bit different than others and the #parts are not the same for a 2010 exhaust.
There is more than 13 changes for 2010 as Yam told us... ;):D

what are the changes to the 2010 models?

the 13 big changes are only on the suspension.
The LTX-GT comes with the rear heat exchanger.
RCA plug OEM ont the steering.
30mm sprocket shaft
intro and extro sprocket....about 5000km before the extro sprocket became the good size.
Warmer hand grip
...the foam of the seat is stiffer...very harder than other year.
The oil of breaking time is not the same.....longer to break.
...But Yam calls only 13 changes.... :drink:
The 2010 engine feel not the same compare to others.

I'll bring this back to the top just for a little discussion. It is not the peak HP gain that shines on the new Apex. It is the explosive low to midrange gain, the peak HP gain is just a bonus!

Yamaha is doing this across the board. I was looking at a new 242 limited S jet boat. They dropped the 160HP M1 motors for the 1800CC motor. They used to rate the HO boats at 320HP. They didn't rate the new Boats with the new motor period.

read a review in a boating mag. all boats with the 1800cc motor out of the waverunners are without the supercharger and running 180hp each vs. 160hp so all the 24 footers are 360hp. kind of a let down, 400 hp 24 footer would be nice. 200 hp each out of those motors wouldn't be a big deal. they are 250-260hp in the sho cruiser and fzr and fzs waverunners.

yeah they are sweet. i would think they could do more than 68mph. i think they govern them or something. my 04 gp1300r did 66.4 on my gps and that is only 165hp which is roughly 100hp less.

my dealer has a left over fzs on the showroom floor. its tempting but i really want a boat and since he screwed me on a boat i guess i'll wait till next year.
