2011 Apex ski labelled "pathetic" by Bergstrom

I think i would beleive a ski specialist anytime before Yamaha, because yamaha has had a pathetic history with skis and darting... never have they adressed this knowned problem since 2006 and everybody had to run around trying so many things to correct this..

anyway..

Snowtrackers are great but on hard ice give a "high up" feeling on the front end.

I tried Arrow skis, and they are great on the Apex...

on the Vector, fininshed out with semi extreme snowtrackers..

:-o

So your saying the Arrows didn't do so well on the Vector? :dunno:

2011 skis

I started this question on another thread and this thread got all the attention and went wild. Now that its cooled off, all the bashing over. What is going to be the best carbide on these new unsafe skis? Did read shapers in one of the magazines, going to put some miles on the new skis before I vote unsafe. I do believe the stock 3" carbides are not going to do it.

Not many of us have many miles on 2011's with different carbides and or Ski's. You are going to have to wait awhile for informed opinions IMHO.

I put about 50 miles on a 2011 Apex SE at a demo ride with Snotracker Extremes. They were great but the snow was a little soft due to spring conditions so the 2010,s were not bad either.

These Demo sleds had come to N.B. from Quebec and most of the Yammie guys in Quebec love there Snotrackers including YMCA staff obviously as they had put them on the Demo Sleds.

they did well, but the snowtrackers griped a little better, both would be great on a vector, but on the Apex, the semi agressive snow trackers didn't bit enough for me and the agressive ones where a little to jacked up for me, the arrows where pretty much spot on ..

and the starsuspension lowering the front end did MAJOR difference on the Vector... .. it turns great..

:-o

anyone want to comment on the semi agressive vs agressive snowtrackers...I have some yet to install...maybe Id trade? whats with the install as I have no directions

What does that mean?

It means on hard ice they don't dig into the snow so the sit on top and make the front end feel like it is higher. Not a real big issue. They fix the darting and give you great control.

Yamaha Mountain skis do the same thing, or any skis with a really tall keel will do this.

Doesn't effect performance IMHO........

Like I've said, if I don't like the new Simmons Gen 1's I put on the sled this summer, I'm putting my Yammi Mountain skis back on there with Snowtrackers or Bergstrom Triple points. I've seen on TY4 here where someone made Snowtrackers work with Yammi Mountain skis........

Dartless plates with shaper bars really make a single carbide ski work good. I have yet to try the trackers as the few times I had time to try them, they were sold out(good sign)
Arrows work the best of any ski I have tried and many many, many people on here and others I deal with have purchased them on my recomendation and I have not had anyone tell me other than they loved how easy they turned how good they hooked in a corner and how they just dont dart.
I have used tripple points on an apex with doo skis, I could not see where they removed darting on icy trails. They in no way worked as good as Arrows or dartless plates, ore even duce bars.
I can't believe he would go out and bash something he has not tried. I thought he would have been a little smarter than that. Go with what you know.

I wasn't going to comment on this post but it is obvious Bergstrom has no idea what he's looking at calling the new ski pathetic.

First problem is the trail of the ski is behind the line of the spindle pivot, not the ski bolt. Can't believe he thinks it is behind the ski-bolt for a so called "expert".

The second thing is the ski-bolt mount has been moved behind the actual spindle pivot by 15mm over the original Apex.

Bergstrom has proven to me he has no clue about actual "trail" and how much carbide is in front of and behind the spindle pivot line. He is going by the ski bolt mounting point and this is just plain WRONG!

I also have driven the early 2011 Apex and there was no darting in the conditions we were riding, whereas the '10's with stock skis did. Remember though the 11's have power steering and this likely has an effect. My new Vector LXGT darts with production. Scott's set-up with triple points, shims and ski savers is highly improved. Also tried Sly Dogs on this sled, even with Scott's same set-up and found the OEM's with the Bergstrom’s was again better. This and a nickel---

Of coarse they suck.. They aren not wide enough IMO... This sled is heavy.. needs 7 inch wide skis in order to do anything

^^^ In Wisconsin? We don't have but 6" inches of hard packed/ice base we ride on. How are you sinking? Ride in the UP? Or do the wider skis work better on a hard packed condition also? Just asking, not arguing. Mike.
