A little bird told me on Dec.10 that Yamaha(canada)was advising their dealers re: 2011 Apex studding, and intimated that knicked Exup's and mufflers would be looked after if the following criteria are met. No more than 136 studs(3-3-2 X17=136), no steel studs, backers or nuts(excessive weight leads to increased ballooning), no double backers and studs not to excceed Woody's 1.325. Long time reader of TY and this is my first post and have a bit more to add when I figure out how.

No way they would do some and not others. A little lawyer would have a field day with them.

yamaha canada and yamaha usa are 2 different companies. this reminds me of the coil issue on the 03 rx1. people in the states buying used sleds and getting new coils but up in canada the dealers telling us to take a hike. same thing with the jackshaft bearing, they got the bearings and we got the shaft.

Thanks for the info.

I have been waiting for that "little bird" to Chirp. Sounds like he did. Was not sure who would be the chosen one to pass on the message. Thought it my be someone with a longer track record here but it appears you may be the or one of the chosen ones.

Are you studding yours? If so, what with and how many. I have installed 119 Woody's 1.325's. [3-2-2 x 17 = 119]

CR stated that studding up the middle of the track will cause excessive ballooning more so than spreading them out along the entire surface of the track.

Just my .02 I never liked studding up the middle makes the sled rock from side to side. ;)!

Riceburner,I'm far from being the chosen one, just overly inquisitive. I will be studding mine with 119 Woody's studs (2-3-2) using Woody's universal template with modifications to reduce ballooning.

No Steel Studs?

What are you supposed to use, plastic studs?

All new, Yamaha releases it's Ti studs for the $14,000 sled you just bought, only $10.00 a piece.

Sorry couldn't resist, I'm guessing just no steel backers and nuts.
