2012

My dealer says he wants the Phazer motor.... (now I know this isn't politically correct)....in a white man's chassis. More or less in a sit down type of machine. He claims that he loses alot of sales to a brand X dealer down the road because people would buy a 500 type regular sled for family use but they look at the current Phazer and go.....NO WAY.

With direct injection why cant a wet sump 2 stroke be made?Would be best of both worlds if so.

Sure hope they dont get rid of Phazer unless a better one is made.Where in the Blog did you see reference to this?

CR, on the blog, mentioned in a reply a while back that the phazer motor in a vector chassis might be worth pursuing. I think its a done deal. As for getting rid of the current phazer, no mention was made. But it would make sense if a higher, horsepower FX variant (100hp range) is in the works.

ArcticChat has some strong rumors on a wet sump 2-stroke. Not sure how it would work but its interesting none the less.

Would a wet sump 2 stroke have a pressurized oiling system like a four stroke and does it still burn oil? And how does the air get past the oil the crankcase? Sounds weird...

Yes it has a pressurized oil system like a 4 stroke. The air is pumped by a gear driven supercharger instead of using the crankcase. This is how 2 stroke diesel engines work.

Seems like this might also eliminate ports in the cylinder walls. Sounds like the best of both worlds. Light ,efficient, powerful and possibly the reliability of a 4-stroke.

Intake is through cylinder ports with exhaust through cylinder head valves.

I would love the phaser motor in a vector chassis. I can't find anything to put my kids on that isn't ten years old. I thought I was going to get a phaser until I rode one and quickly realized she'd be thrown off it before we got out of the parking lot. That's why there is a ten year old SXR in the trailer. My dealer says he is going to carry a new brand of sled that is about a 3/4 size sled with a 300 cc 4 stroke with electric start and reverse and top speed around 40. Supposed to be around 4200 new. I can't remember the brand and I'm sure someone will come up with it but I'm going to take a serious look at it soon if yamaha doesn't fill the gap.

But why bother with 2 strokes if you still need head valves..? Than you need head cam, chain, etc. Would it really be any lighter then a 4-stroke??

I dunno. Putting a 80hp engine in the Vector chasis would be a mistake to me. Good motor. Good chasis for higher hp applications. Not a good sounding combination. Am I alone thinking a 80hp Vector would be nutless?

X2

Doesn't make sense to me!!

The 2 stroke diesels I worked with in the past have ports in the walls so that a blower can blow the exhaust out of the chambre. Crappy, dirty and loud setup that I believe is no longer being made.

i'm with you, everybody wants a 100hp phazer,so who is gonna buy a 80 hp vector, doesnt make sense to me,power to weight would suffer even more with this combo

Because Yamaha is reacting to DOO's 4 stroke 60hp ACE sled in a XP chassis.

It seems that this year the OEMs are keeping a little quieter than in years before, no teaser pics, videos, etc. Me thinks there won't be anything really special/innovative this year.

Either that, or they want to clear out last year's stock of sleds.
