I've got the chance to trade my pro rmk for a 2014 Yamaha Viper XTX. Gonna use it for trails but mostly of trail. Any known issues? Would it be good off trail? Would I like it?

Welcome to the BLUE Team there are pages and pages of good information on here. Do some research till the guys that know these sleds find you. Most guys are working on the clutch and shocks to start Ride it first. See what you think. Good luck / Ride on!!!!!

If you are doing mostly off trail riding, why would you trade your PRO RMK for the Viper?
I haven't ridden the PRO RMK but by many it's regarded probably as the best mountain sled on the market. Well, depends on what model year you have...
I have a '15 Viper XTX and love it. I do my riding probably 60-70% trail riding and the rest off trail, in tight woods, open fields, etc. Northern part of Norway don't get huge amount of snow, usually less then 3-4 feet, and normally it's wind effected so it's not very fluffy, so the XTX will take me pretty much everywhere. On top of it, I can't ride everywhere because it's illegal.
What have I done to my sled?
- Ulmer clutch kit and OSP belt adjuster and 8DN belt
- Fox QS3 front shocks
- Hygear linkage kit and Dual Pressure for the skid
- Zbroz stiffer center shock spring
- Skid plates
- Curve XS skis (well, planning to)
- J&T 8.5" 4 wheel kit
Now, most of these mods aren't must do's, except maybe the clutch kit, and the sled would be awesome anyway.
If you are riding in the deep fluffy stuff, like Revelstoke style, I would keep the RMK, or trade it for a newer RMK (PRO or SKS).
Just my two cents

I
I ride in Manitoba. There isn't much deep snow . It just gets blown in ditches. I will be going on long trail rides every weekend probably. What's it like for side hilling and boo docking? Pro RMK just isn't meant for trail. If you are doing mostly off trail riding, why would you trade your PRO RMK for the Viper?

If you are looking for trail riding with the ability to go off trail the Viper XTX is perfect, in my opinion. But because of its 42" stance it's not good at side hilling, it takes some effort to get it on its side (or maybe I'm just too weak LOL
)

Any problems with the 2014 viper xtx that I should be worried about? Weight?

If you search thu this forum you will see all the info you are looking for.. this questions has been pounded to death.
I have a 14 and a 15 both turbo's both have a bit of shock work and suspension upgrades and they are the most trail-able sleds I have ever owned.
This video is the 15 in 4' of fresh powder with the stock 1.6" track it will go through anything
This is the 14 before the big turbo upgrade and it flies on the trails (both do)

Have you had any troubles with the viper. I'm about to trade my pro for the 2014 viper. Anything to worry about cause I'm kinda scared of trading with all the issues people have been talking about?? Thanks!I have a 14 and a 15 both turbo's both have a bit of shock work and suspension upgrades and they are the most trail-able sleds I have ever owned.

I am not saying this has been a trouble free transititio. From my 3 pro r's to the viper but it has been worth it I am sitting in Miami on the runway after 5 hr delay but that trip too was worth it

- 2016 Viper XTX-LE w/ MPI turbo
I live in Manitoba and have a 16 XTX MPI turbo and did about 4000Km around the Grand Beach, Pinawa, Whiteshell area this year. I play in fields, swamps and in gravel pits but mostly trails. I have been stuck but it has gotten me through stuff I never thought it would. You can side hill it and changing the ski's to the narrowest stance helps a lot but just by the nature of the two rides being polar opposites for requirements I think this sled rocks. Soaks up trail bumps at 100kph and then pulls me through 3 feet of snow in a marsh.

it will feel heavy for you coming off a pro. if your into boon docking and off trail play you will need the roll over kit for sure. power will feel like a 600 class sled. you want to be impressed? turbo it with hurricane 190 kit and hold on! seems the xtx is the better all around skid. i have the ltx, wish i got the xtx from the start. its easier to make the xtx handle great on the trails than it is to get the ltx to transfer weight and ride smooth.
