Hey guys
I was just a the dealer looking into the new 2016 sleds and was told that Yamaha replaced the 1049 with a 998cc engine. The 2016 motor has a stronger bottom end in preparation for a turbo. The 998 is only pushing 110hp down from the 130hp of the 1049cc. Has anyone else on here driven one and is there a noticeable difference ? I am not sure I want to give up another 20hp. Im already down from switching from my APEX !!

95% false info I would find a new dealer. The 2016 vipers still have the 1049 but it was tweaked a little from the old motor still makes 135 ish hp. But the rods on the 2016 new 1049 engine are weaker and are blowing on some turbos. The 998 triple is for the new yxz side by side they haven't put that motor in a sled.

If a dealer told you that go to another one he has no idea what he is talking about. The 16 new motor is the same displacement. There are different pistons, rods crank and heads on it. They said to make the motors they are using in different products more alike for build costs but there is a problem with some of the rods being used in the 16 sleds not being heat treated properly. and there is no way to tell if a motor has good rods or bad ones till it blows up if you turbo it!

Ya I couldn't find anything about it online. I went back and mentioned that and he said that Yamaha was keeping it hush hush as they didn't want to scare people away with the loss in power. He said the sled has the same feel and still falls on its face around 97mph like the 1049. They even have a sign with the sled specs thats says 998cc on it . Its a Viper LTX SE

So if this is true am I better off going for a used 2014 or a 2016.. The price difference is 8400 to 13000. Cost of borrowing is obviously more for the used one double that of the new one.. All in 12500 for the used with cost of borrowing and 15699 for the new . I also get the three year warranty with the 2016. One year dealer warranty with the used. I doubt ill turbo it though you never know down the road

If your not turboing I would go for a 2016 there is a lot of blowout sales going on because of low snow. If you plan on turboing find a 14 or 15 IMHO. If u look around I herd some dealers are blowing out brand new vipers for under 9500So if this is true am I better off going for a used 2014 or a 2016.. The price difference is 8400 to 13000. 2016 Spec sheet says 1049 cc of all Viper versions as well as Cat 7000 versions so if your Dealer knows something the rest of the world doesn't Yamaha has set it self and Cat up for lawsuits to make very severe financial hard ship on both companies. I personally would be talking to a different dealer, possibly one that can read a spec sheet.

Unfortunately for us $10,300. plus 1.44 current exchange rate becomes $14,832. plus taxes at the border to get it home.
