Engine was improved for the side by side which they do plan on making money on. Change wasn't for us snowmobile guys.
Thats depressing but the UTV guys suffered way worse than us for a long time. Now they just have to make us a motor. And if they want to race a 2 stroke. Man Yamaha could just blow everyone away so easily! Still think they should just buy Cat. Maybe thats why the 800 has been so long coming. Maybe Yamaha is involved?

The side by side is a different cylinder bore diameter than Viper or Vector motors.

If we could only be a fly on the wall during those strategy meetings! It would be so fascinating! Snowmobiles are such a small part of what yamaha does but there is a lot of brand loyalty. Think about how many people on this site own a Yamaha outboard, generator, dirt bike, motorcycle, etc... I bet there are a lot of people out there who have all Yamaha toys except for their sled which is a ski Doo, cat, or Polaris. All they need is an excuse to come right back to Yamaha. The viper was a great first step. I can't wait to see what Yamaha will do going forward. Their only limit is their commitment which we can only hope has been renewed by their viper success. Come on yamaha! Let's rock the world like you did in the 80's with the phaser!!! No one can build a better engine, now it's time to show the world that you guys can do the whole sled!
So there is definitely some changes in the 2016 SR viper motor. I didn't no this or are you referring to the vector? The 2016 Viper has a new valve cover (same as what is on the YXZ 1000R & Vector), the lower crankcase half also has a few new bosses molded into it, and the cam chain tensioner is different as well. So there is definitely some changes in the 2016 SR Viper motor. I haven't been into one any further than that yet (to inspect rods or pistons or crank) to see if there is any other changes.

The valve cover, lower engine case, and cam chain tensioner are definitely changed. I haven't been into a 2016 motor far enough to know if the rods, pistons, or crank have changed.
Thanks for letting us no. There must have been a reason for the change. The valve cover, lower engine case, and cam chain tensioner are definitely changed. I haven't been into a 2016 motor far enough to know if the rods, pistons, or crank have changed.
