just a thought. i know this is a Yamaha site but since they are basically the same sled with different clutches i'd see if they have any deals on the 7000 or 9000 cats as well. they might have the one you're looking for with the QRS3 shocks if you can't find a Yamaha with them. I think Y only offered shocks on the LE models or spring order models but i could be wrong.

Just search all the dealers in Ontario, or better yet call them, I'm sure you'll find an LE somewhere.

Not a bad idea, but I'm a little concerned about quality control with Cat. Do I need to be? Isn't the Viper made in an Arctic Cat facility?
yes they're assembled in the same facility, so same quality but different colours and clutches

i think cat is running the TEAM clutches.
Why limit it to the Viper or Sidewinder? Check out the Vector or Apex if you’re strictly doing trail riding. My son has a sidewinder and although it’s a great sled, the riding position wasn’t for me. I prefer a more traditional riding position and you can’t beat the power steering on the Apex and Vector. And you still get the Japanese built quality with both of these sleds. Not knocking the winder, but in my opinion the fit and finish are much better on the Japanese built sled over the thief river falls sleds. The Apex has plenty of power for trail riding. Before the winder it was the fastest thing Yamaha built. I’ve had zero issues with all my Apex’s and Vectors. And that’s about 50,000 miles worth of riding. I just picked up a leftover 16 Apex last week for an amazing price. There are a few leftover brand new 16 and 17’s. Pick one up before they’re gone. A shame it’s the last year of the Apex. That’s why I bought another one. Now i have 2 to hold me over until the next great all Yamaha built sled comes out.

I've had a vector, apex, sr viper, and a sidewinder. If money isn't the issue, get the sidewinder. If it's a consideration then definitely the Viper. The ride on the new sidewinder and viper is identicle on my sleds when set the same. I loved my apex but you can get a sidewinder for the same price. Ideally if you have a chance to get to a demo day and try each you'll find what you like best. Your choosing Yamaha so you have a great start!

I need a more upright riding position, with the slight lean forward because of my back. I thought I sat on an Apex, and it was more of a traditional sit down machine? What about the Vector?

If the Vector is still in a more upright position, it looks like it would be sufficient for me. Blue Beacon had a 2017 Viper R-TX on for $13,300, but someone grabbed it up.

One thing I noticed about the Winders was the knockouts below the handlebar for accessory switches. I can see why they did that (ie if you wanted to add the heated seat), but it looks a little cheap. You're right, the fit and finish on the Japan-built sleds looks better! But I'm not sure that the seating position is "forward" on any of them. Might have to look at Doo or Poo, but I really want to stick with Yamaha.
