2018 Yamahas

how many PSI ya think it can take with a turbo?

What a joke

I think it's a wonderful idea! A trail certified sled for kids, plus when the kids all grow up you can just keep the thing around to mod and have fun with because an adult can still ride it for fun. Obviously you are not a person that has kids or is interested in something like this. I like the fact it's large enough like the old SnoScoot that an adult can jump on it for fun, yet it's perfect for their kids.

Good idea and you just know Polaris and Ski-Doo will be following Yamaha and Cat with this idea.

Just take a step back here for a second. So we have both Yamaha and Arctic Cat together building sleds. This year is Yamaha's 50th year in the snowmobile industry and they try to wow us with a 200cc snow scoot?

Now before you guys go for the jugular, let me explain something. I'm the guy at work and with my buddy promotin Yamaha, telling everyone that Yamaha is the best in everything that Yamaha sells.

I have several Yamaha in my garage, YXZ, Viper turbo, TTR110 (9 year old son) venture lite, Yamaha 2500watt generator, dam it I even have a Yamaha plate on my truck. All my family have Yamaha from boats to atv to sleds. But Yamaha needs to be more cutting edge. Since they got in with Arctic Cat (great move by the way) they have been saying "you haven't see anything yet". Well when are we going to be seeing it? Just look at BRP and what they done again this year with the new 850 and the shot engine start. They are leading the way all the time. It's time for Yamaha to show us, the Yamaha faithful and the rest of the world what great engineering is all about.

It may be easier to just swap in a larger MZ Series engine. My bet is that it has a 6 - 7 hp MZ 200.... they make several variants that are larger.... we can go right for the MZ 360, double the power. LOL!

Haha! I think they were talking about a turbo on the Apex, but yeah there will be people putting larger engines in the SnoScoot. You know that will happen.

Why should they? Winters seem to get worse every season. Let's face it, to Yamaha it's a dying market so they hitch there wagon to cat as an engine supplier. They have cat build a couple sleds for them so dealer's have a winter product and that's that. My dealer that has sold the full Yamaha line since the mid 70's dropped sleds in 13 and hasn't looked back. I predict the 19 model line except maybe the VK is all AC built. Sad very sad.

You mean the crack-a-doo's? And reading mountain riders saying the 850 only lasts an avg. of 2000kms? Sure, highly stressed in mtn. riding, but how long does a catmaha 4 stroke turbo last? I've seen cracked rev bulkheads myself. Not pretty!

I know I'm gonna probably hear it to no end but........bit the bullet and spring checked a high country 8000. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't turn my Nytro xtx into a fun off trail sled, figure this new 8000 will be the closest thing to a Yamaha 2 stroke I'm ever gonna get. Love the viper and the SW, just don't think they'll do what I want them to do off trail. The 4 year warranty helped me in my decision as well....never thought I'd own a Cat. Doo was out of the question in the 800 or 850 category, to many first hand experiences with failures. Hope this new engine is all they say it's gonna be!

There are only a handful of the units that are having problems, most dealers I have talked to have not seen some of the problems that the forum is showing. Warranty is a good thing so they can get us covered and fix the issues for the future of the model.

I don't think you will get badmouthed for that at all. I have leaned against many in my local AC dealer and debated if I could live with flat black and green, and I think I could. If I was to order a new sled, I probably would have gone with the 9000, but that new 8000 should be a light bullet as well. Since I don't have a local Yamaha dealer anymore, the thought crosses my mind more and more each year.

Cool part about a spring order cat, is you may have it in a few weeks, rather than next fall. Many 2018's are already shipping. The new 8000 will be tougher as that engine is probably going to hit the mountain sleds first, as the mountain folk are still riding.

Enjoy it, and please report back.

I ordered the white black and orange base model. the flat black looks good, but like the white orange and black better.

my dealer is a ways away but I've been buying from him for years, treat me excellent. Anywho, my dealer claims they have had no complaints so far. I do believe it will be a better engine than Doo's, last Idaho trip we had 3 out of 4 go down. Coincidence? Have a hard time believing that.
