2019 release

And what would you want in this APEX XTX power steering really that's it what else. My VIPER steers as good or better than my 11 apex did with out power steering. A properly set up VIPER or SIDEWINDER drives and rides way better than any APEX, like I said before I owned several of them and you couldn't give me one after owning my Viper. I keep asking what it is you all want in a new sled and all I get is 150 hp and now power steering. I think that the new SRX is awesome and they are going to sell a bunch of them.

I too don't feel anyone is ragging...this discussion happens every season. Obviously the mfg's are not going to come up with every dream sled you see people mention. Many riders including myself have held onto their Apex machines because the motor is so sweet, they run forever with general maintenance. The power is just about right for most experienced male riders. I am glad you like your Viper, I have tried several but coming off an Apex it just feels way too weak on power for me. Obviously the SW is the clear step up and maybe that is Yamaha's intentions, just step up to a Winder being they have several models to choose from. They are rather smooth and the extra 50 hp they have isn't like it's hard to handle. But IMHO I feel they still have too many open windows. They have motors out there in 4s to fill those spots and I would love to see them come out in the ProCross skid.....500 4s Phazer engine, 847 Wolverine engine, 847 crossplane triple in the sport bike. Just makes me wonder if they were to do those in a ProCross do they have to get Cat to agree? Does Cat not want to if they don't want to market a Cat version too? Cat has a few 2s engines of their own to fill these voids in their lineup, Yamaha does not.

Thinking about it I agree with whitedust, that 150HP ACE is going to rob some 4s market share. That is right in the 800cc 2s HP sweetspot for seasoned trail riders.

A I mentioned earlier about my local park using those Skandic utility machines with 900 ACE motors for CC ski trail grooming. I talked with the park manager today. They bought two of them for around $10k each. Said the main reason was they wanted 4s was for no smoke, good pulling torque and ease of maintenance but price was a key too. The Yamaha's were too spendy. :o|

I lov my eps! Makes the Apex xtx very easy to steer with Snow trackers. I just rode a Viper with triple points yesterday in the UP and the steering was much heavier than my Xtx with eps. What I asked for was a new platform lighter Apex replacement with eps about 150 ponies with NA engine if possible. Push button reverse super bright headlights and a high windshield. Handlebar rear suspension control would be nice too...I miss my Ohlin EC. I don’t mind if the Apex replacement is more rider forward I like SW seating position too but don’t need 204 ponies 130 to little. I have a riser on my Apex so puts me on the tank. I’m pushing 13k Miles so it would be nice to purchase a new Yamaha and start at zero. I have ridden Vipers and SWs liked the SW better probably because of the hp but missed eps big time on both Viper and SE. I don’t understand why both Viper and SW don’t use eps? I bet a lot of us would like that inclusion.

If the EPS holds you back from a winder you should consider my MPS kit. It's been a great success this season for me and makes the winder steer as easy as an EPS apex.

Interesting rumors about the 2019 Cats:

"The iACT is a $900 option from what I was told today.
They are not building a surplus of sleds for dealers to purchase this year. Textron is looking to tilt the balance back to higher demand and lower availability. From what I was told today, the best way to lock yourself in to a 2019, is to snocheck. They are looking to flush out the older inventory of sleds from the past few years."

Is that the mechanical extension I saw here on TY maybe barnof parts? I hate to mess with non stock steering hit a tree if something breaks. A lot of risk imo. What exactly is MPS?

I know Knappattack posted he really likes the MPS. Looks like a nice add on!

I'd love to see a 3 cylinder fan cooled 4 stroke. Put it in compact rider forward chassis. Retail if for 8k and i think they would sell tons of them.
I totally AGREE!

The MPS give you a mechanical advantage that will allow you to have a better, fighting chance of avoiding the tree to begin with. It has no impact on risk and a small impact on your pocket. It certainly won't raise the risk of hitting anything and you get a better steering experience the entire time you aren't hitting trees.. MPS = Mechanical Power Steering (I Believe)..

Best looking procross sled Y or AC has ever put out. Takes my back to my all blue 2000 sxr. Not sure why all those crazy color combinations these days. This thing looks fantastic.

I'd like to know if Yamaha has done anything to address the belt issues on SW's?

I know plenty of the speed shop related folks are diligently working on it but there really seems to be no real clear cut answer yet. I know the offset is a key component in this but in reality this goes back to the 1100T in 2012 which had issues. I thought it was all cleared up but apparently it's still a problem. I am starting to wonder about the motor mounts? Apparently Ski Doo found their 850 has too soft of rubber cushions on the mounts and there is a harder set coming out.

Does the SW have an engine torque link on it? If not is it available by the aftermarket outfits?

Compared to the purple ‘19 Cats this thing looks amazing and style is a huge factor in these things. Also Yamaha will get the iACT suspension renamed iQS. This was likely a joint developed system or I doubt Yamaha would be using it. There are a lot of small improvements like real rear idlers and all new higher quality controls. These are the small things that people have been asking for since the jointly developed sleds have appeared.

I just googled it , I can see how it would help . Would you say it's a $400 difference?

I don’t have one but I am eagerly awaiting the version for the older apex. I was commenting as a product designer and engineer, it makes sense. Just going by the reviews however, it seems everyone is pleased.

IMO any sled that can be purchased and turned up to 270 hp is going to have reported belt issues. Most of the Sws and turbo cats get studded up and boosted up which puts a ton a strain on the belt.

My dad has 3000 miles on his stock SW. Still rocking the original belt.

Some are fine and some are not. There are stockers blowing belts too just like there were stock 1100T Cat's a few years back. But being there is the chance they can be turned up maybe Cat/Yam just turns a blind eye and let's the consumer deal with it.

Also they need to replace the relays with solid state ones for cold conditions. Finding aftermarket ones is proving to be difficult.
