Why would I ride a Cat chassis? My Chassis is as old as the Cat chassis, Why would I ride an old Cat chassis with all its problems when my 8 year old Apex is problem free for 12,000 miles. It took Yamaha 8 years to iron out the Apex into a machine that is both tough and reliable and they both owned and designed it. Yamaha neither owns nor designed the Cat.
It took Yamaha 5 years to shoehorn a motor into the chassis (poorly I might add) design a killer turbo motor and show Cat where too weld on some tabs for new plastic. They have done nothing to the chassis because they do not own it. So unless they own or get the rights to redesign the chassis and make it as reliable as the Delta box why would I and many others like me want to buy one.
We are still waiting for the Delta box replacement, the Cat chassis is not it. The drive train of the Cat is no where near as tough or reliable, the only thing the Cat has that is better is the suspension and I can live with the Apex suspension cause as much as everyone wants to complain about it, the truth is its not terrible. Its a big heavy Cadillac not a sports car and if ya bought it thinking it was a Cadillac your not disappointing with it! The problem is that the Apex 2011 up Apex is not that its a delta box, its that the Cat chassis can't live up to that standard of quality or refinement. The partnership is the problem because from it comes Cat sleds with all of Cats problems and weaknesses. If Yamaha had control over that Chassis and could bring it up to Apex quality durability and refinement maybe more would buy in, till then why one want to give up riding the last best sled Yamaha ever built.
