03RX1, I'm with ya. My first sled was a 78 GS340, and I owned 2 strokes right up till when I bought an 07 Phazer, then Nytro, then supercharged it, now SW. The power delivery is so superior, better noise and all the other qualities you mention. I can't for the life of me figure out why people like 2 strokes.2 stroke 2 stroke 2 stroke it is like a broken record. LOL
I have been snowmobiling since the late 60s. I have owned Johnson, Evinrude, MotoSkis, Chapparrals, Johndeer, Yamaha and yes even a Arctic Cat (worse sled I owned) over the years.
My first Yamaha was a real nice used 1969 SL351, my first oil injected sled.
Then my second Yamahas were new 1993 and 1995 Phazers, awesome sleds, wife and I loved them.
Then new 1998 Vmax Deluxe and 1998 Venture, then my best 2 stroke Yamaha yet was a 2003 Viper ER.
I never had a concern with 2 strokes, the Arctic Cats were the only ones that melted down on me, but I will say when I went 4 stroke in 2005 (03RX1ERLE) with no smell, expensive oil to buy and the power and reliability I will never go back.
Yamaha will be here in 2020 and beyond IMHO and believe 4 stroke is here to stay.

Was any beer involved? My trusty sleuth's Frick and Frack (pictured below) just sent me a picture of the new MP338 (MultiPurpose) sled that they spotted at Yamaha's top secret test site:
Keep up the good work boys!

A lot of people I know confuse the small but explosive power band of a 2 stroke as "powerful". My nephew took my Viper for a rip and said it was a dog and didn't pull hard, said his edge XC600 pulled way harder. So we lined them up and you can guess the results. Nothing but a tail light view for my nephew and a broken ego. Even though the Viper/Nitro is tuned to "hit like a 2 stroke" it still has way more torque down low and smoother power band that doesn't give you the same "Hit"

Ok guys, I must agree this has been fun but I can honestly say that I am really satisfied with my 2017 Viper STX DX137 which I bought new last year. I only have 1350 miles on it so far with out incident. The only concern I have is the amount of space given to the service of the Hayes Braking System in the service manual. My first Yamaha was a 1980 SS440 bought new in Oct. 1979. Coming from Johnson snowmobiles Yamaha had the only sleds that didn't look like they were built out behind the shed by my little brother. I also bought new 1982 Bravo in Oct. 1981. Next was two 1985 Phazer Deluxe in Oct. 84. (would have bought 84 model but didn't like the silver) Then I didn't buy another sled till 2003 Venture 600. (Put 2 kids through hockey) (also didn't trust 4 stroke) Then bought new Vector 2005, Apex 2006, Phazer 2007. Still have the Vector, Apex & Phazer. I love my 4 stroke Yamahas. You should notice a lot of these sleds are first year new models all the way back to the first Yamaha. All with very few issues other than the 07 Phazer which is fine now.(still not fond of the reverse operation) The Viper is not a first year model as I will admit I was afraid of the AC marriage. The only issue I can see with the Viper so far is that the brake will need bleeding after one season. All my other Yamaha 4 strokes (including the 05 Vector) have not needed any brake service. I am thinking that the plastic reservoir is not a good design and allows evaporation. Other than that this sled is comfortable, warm and drives well. (Remember I'm a trail rider and 67 years old) I do all my own service (always have) I do not punish my sleds the way some do so I probably won't have a lot of the same issues as others.

Forgot about my sons 1985 Bravo, which was handed down to my grandson then my granddaughter and now sits in storage as they have also outgrown and we have owned for 18 trouble free years. We can't and won't part with it and I have more grand kids coming up that will be using in the future. I am going to next year pick up a SRX120 for a granddaughter who is 5, then move her onto the bravo.Ok guys, I must agree this has been fun but I can honestly say that I am really satisfied with my 2017 Viper STX DX137 which I bought new last year. I will never own anything other than Yamaha's the reaming snowmobile years ahead.
Back in 1999 I bought a new Mini Z for my son, put a hop up kit which was new gearing, glass pack muffler and governor eliminator. He had a lot of fun as it went 23 mph. I had two replace the track, replaced under warranty, a valve keeper failed and sucked the valve into the cylinder and locked motor up and then had a valve stick and get bent, which were repairs out of pocket, however since a technician made the repairs myself. Passed that onto my grandson and granddaughter before the Bravo however when they were done and ready we sold that.
This was my one and only Skidoo which I was not happy with the reliability.

There fit and finish is getting better and so will other things in the future but there are some out there that seem to think that the sleds that where and are still built in Japan never had any problems and that is far from the truth. They all have there problems and if you don't like the direction Yamaha is headed maybe look else where. I have a 14 Viper with 5000 miles on it, has it been perfect ? No way but neither have the 20 other ones I have owned. I drove a 18 Viper last season and it has a bunch of small things changed or improved over the 14 and to me it was a much better machine so things are improving. It just rubs me the wrong way when guys complaint about the partnership and sleds there building when there still riding the old delta box stuff and won't buy a new one no matter what they come out with.
Why would I ride a Cat chassis? My Chassis is as old as the Cat chassis, Why would I ride an old Cat chassis with all its problems when my 8 year old Apex is problem free for 12,000 miles. It took Yamaha 8 years to iron out the Apex into a machine that is both tough and reliable and they both owned and designed it. Yamaha neither owns nor designed the Cat.
It took Yamaha 5 years to shoehorn a motor into the chassis (poorly I might add) design a killer turbo motor and show Cat where too weld on some tabs for new plastic. They have done nothing to the chassis because they do not own it. So unless they own or get the rights to redesign the chassis and make it as reliable as the Delta box why would I and many others like me want to buy one.
We are still waiting for the Delta box replacement, the Cat chassis is not it. The drive train of the Cat is no where near as tough or reliable, the only thing the Cat has that is better is the suspension and I can live with the Apex suspension cause as much as everyone wants to complain about it, the truth is its not terrible. Its a big heavy Cadillac not a sports car and if ya bought it thinking it was a Cadillac your not disappointing with it! The problem is that the Apex 2011 up Apex is not that its a delta box, its that the Cat chassis can't live up to that standard of quality or refinement. The partnership is the problem because from it comes Cat sleds with all of Cats problems and weaknesses. If Yamaha had control over that Chassis and could bring it up to Apex quality durability and refinement maybe more would buy in, till then why one want to give up riding the last best sled Yamaha ever built.

Johnny 2 stroke! I showed my wife these videos somebody posted on here a while ago. After I bought her a new Vector. She laughed her #*$&@ off. Especially the part about the women not liking the guys smelling like chainsaws. I was still riding a modified Cat 2S at the time!

This is so overblown its not funny. Same old stuff. All proven wrong. The Procross chassis is better then the Delta box. It doesn't eat slides. The wheels in the skid actually are the right size. It doesn't crack w-arms. It doesn't wear out bushings. It rides better. It doesn't lift an inside ski all the time. Why would I ride a Cat chassis? If the motor fits so poorly, why does it handle so well?
I have put 10k plus miles on both the Delta box and Procross. No comparison the Pro cross is superior. The Delta box is not horrible, if that is an endorsement.
Please stop the nonsense
