My 07 Apex GT comes with a 24 tooth upper gear. If I change that to a 23 tooth gear, what clutching changes to I need to make, if any?

clutching
i think weight has something to do with it, i weigh 250 and i don't have
clutch it. if your smaller you may want to clutch, try it first.

I just regeared my 07 GT with a 23 top gear. I didn't have to do much to it. Just adjust the secondary clutch helix. It was revving a little to much. Mine was set on 6-3, so I backed it off to 6-1. Rpm's were perfect.

We have a 2006 Apex GT and a 2007 Apex RTX.
The RTX is geared one tooth lower, but I wasn't aware of any differences in the clutching between the two sleds.
p.s. we still kept our SRX-700
I'm having a difficult time parting with it.

Since you're only going 1 tooth down with the top-gear, don't do anything until you try it first. If your rpm is high then add a 1 or 2 gram washer to the outer rivet which should start pulling the rpm down. The 23 tooth top gear is the stock setup in the 07 Attak and if I remember correctly the weights are the same. Good Luck!BigMac said:My 07 Apex GT comes with a 24 tooth upper gear. Bringing life to an old thread ... I also just purchased a 23 top gear for my Apex GT , haven't installed yet.. did anyone do this and make any other clutching or traction changes ?
I'm currently zero studs and bassicly stock set up , limiter strap all the way out and almost Max on my transfer rod .... I'm not racing or looking for anything crazy , I just want to improve the bottom end snap from corner to corner , I don't care if I ever see 110 mph , as I ride mostly groomed trails , and want more snap when I squeeze the go flipper

I've put a 23 top gear in a pile of apexes and never touched clutches... don't have to and it will still be faster.

Seat of the pants noticeable or like half a sled in a drag ? Did it kill your mpg?I've put a 23 top gear in a pile of apexes and never touched clutches... don't have to and it will still be faster.

In a race it will inch away and keep stretching the distance compared to a stock geared machine.
Never noticed difference in mpg or anything else negative.

What do you currently have in for clutching? If stock I'd add weight to the tip (change rivits) guessing that the rpm's will increase some. Is it ok to run it after gear change only yes. After you get a few rides in make the call.
Do you know what springs are in your clutches? Lots of post on here about changing out secondary spring for a white one with lots of happy end results. Springs are inexpensive vs a kit

Stock clutching as far as I can tell , I've never changed them , without pulling the secondary again I can't tell , I've changed upper gears before on older skidoos with good results , but had clutch kits to boot .. from what I've been told stock clutching is pretty good on these but geared "high" , yes I've heard about the attack "white" spring secondary , but like I said I don't wanna go wild , what rivet are u referring to when changing the rivet weight ? , What's TOO high for revs ? 11,000?What do you currently have in for clutching? I always turned them 10800-11000. As high as u can without hitting rev limiter. Put 23/38 gears with attak/Ltx White spring at 50 degrees when on hard pan and it will leave all other apexes. Soft snow leave at 60 degrees.

So brining life back into the old thread AGAIN lol , I need to spike up my apex , stock sled , last year my was first full year with it , and again I love it , but she's to torquey for the 121" track, 1.25" .. anything under 30-40 mph and I'll roast the track , pushing the go flipper , or hole shots from corners are dicey , Ice corners are awfull , ANYWAY , found a used track (cobra 1.325" with 192 Woody's) .is this to much stud ? , Also, I've got a 23t top gear id throw in when changing out the track .... Am I going in the right direction? Thanks....
Oh I forgot ... Other half of this is I've got my transfer bar set pretty much all the way , to make up for my lack in traction , and it's clanging and banging on bumps and I'm sick of it, so assuming this track will also solve this problem as I can put the transfer rod back to a normal position so it's not slapping from the exsessive movement from having it almost all the way out (max transfer)
