Question, why do some sleds with the same exact setup and tune burn belts and others don’t?
Ive been wondering exact same thing! It might just be cause we have so many diff tunes here, and diff riding styles and trail types and traction....other then that, i just dont get it either.
I love trying other guys setups for myself and testing them how I ride and where, and have done that pretty much since day one. I have been through quite the gamut of clutch setups..lol . Nice to know, at least now for me the belt issue seems to be solved. And i don't miss the grimey 8jp at all. This Ultimax has zero belt dust to wipe off all winter, reminds me of how clean my apex used to be, but even the apex I had a tiny amt of dust at season's end.

my results were pretty much the same as yours with the heavy springs , my clutches ran super hot with the ac green spring , when u threw snow on the clutch it sizzled off instantly ,I'm now trying the black/tan with good results , pretty much same temp as the black /orange . the black tan at 2-3 gives a better back shift then the black /orange , i have been trail riding with this spring , once condition get better on the lake I can see how well it will work at wot long pulls ,
Who makes the Black/tan spring? Do you know the rates?

Secondary dictates how hard the belt is grabbed according to the amount of torque applied to the belt. Technically if the his sled isn’t way off on rpm’s the force provided buy the primary should be pretty darn close even tho it’s running different weights and springs.
Question, why do some sleds with the same exact setup and tune burn belts and others don’t?
Yes good point,,,, it is a mystery and very frustrating. I found a silver secondary spring in a box of old firecat parts I had. By hand it feels less stiff then the cat green I have but more then the Dalton Red or B/O. Any idea what this spring could be?

Oh and yes conditions, different tunes, gearing and riding style also change the setup.

This also explains why the lower offset is helping on problem sleds, but causes excess heat on non belt blowers. M2C

Pinnin' it!

This makes total sense CM!!
That’s probably why my ‘17 ran so good at 60mm offset. It was straight!! I’ll be bringing my Srx back out that far from current 57.2 as you recommended.
Thanks again !

I know this doesn't make sense but i went out for another 200mile day yesterday and while i didn't try to blow the belt i was in a number of different style trails. Some were on and off the throttle hard and i still have yet to blow this xs825. I was a tad high in tip weight which i will remove for the next trip. 8700rpms but it was +4 deg c or higher midday. I never bothered to open the side panel. Im sure everything was hot. But never did it give me any signs of slip or vibration. Will go through rollers/belt before next weekend.
