No need for that and it's a wrong combination.

That is why I went to the iceripper XT was to get rid of the studs. Double backers on a Yamaha introduces a whole bunch of vibration into the chassis. You will end up taking the studs out when you see the MPH they will rob you of. 5 MPH easy! I learned my lesson with double backers on a Yamaha the hard way too. Ski-Doo extros will help with the vibration if you want to keep the double backers. # of stud tips mean nothing for traction, they don't penetrate into the ice, only skate on top.

I would also bet that most of those studs will end up bent or broken as you didnt use the tall nuts.

I never used tall nut, wen you think about it,you may prefer a bent stud then a pull through the track.I never break a stud yet,i bent a average of 3 stud per season and never ad a pull through.I take the bent stud.straight the stud and put it back on the track.

Mike, how good do you think that track would work on ice. Will it make the sled slide around or is it stable?

were you running studs that long? 1.425 studs wont bend as easy as 1.725 ones will.
I could be wrong but it looks like he is running A 1.5 inch track and 1.725 inch studs.

Won't this tear your front heat exchanger out????? I thought 1.450 were the max for the attak??
Also, I'm with ROCKERRTX on tall nuts. Tried them for 1 season and had 5 pull throughs. Normally they just bend and I can replace during inspection.

I don't want to be too negative, but also the studs right down the center are likely to rattle against the upper shock mount.
I've run studs right down the middle with the monoshock in the past and if they are very tight (16+ ft-lbs) they don' rattle too badly; but if they aren't sunk right in they are both noisy and will probably take out the shock/shock mount eventually.
I've also found the short nuts strip at about 13 ft-lbs so you need to run slightly taller nuts if you want to go tighter than that.

Whoa...here...what's this about double backers and vibration? I run 96 studs with double backers and I have an annoying vibration right around 80km/h +/- 5km/h...slow or faster it's fine. Now my buddy runs an Apex with 96 double backers AND 24 singles with zero vibrations. What have you found in relation to the doubles and vibration?

I have bad vibrations using double backers on the Yamaha's. Maybe its just my pattern, I don't know. But using fully clipped tracks and ski-doo extros on the turbo sleds there is none. I think its due to the yamaha drive wheels being machined at the center of the sprockets and its suspension, I don't know for sure. When we studded my neighbors RX-1 using the same pattern and double backers I have used forever on the Cats, he said it ruined a nice smooth sled. After 2000 miles, (and cracks in the tunnel from vibration) he has taken them all out and is back to a smooth, vibration free ride again. Also he picked up 5 MPH to boot. Same thing with my wife's Attak. I had 144 all double backed studs including the outside band and you would swear it has a couple rods hanging out of the engine it vibrates so bad. I pulled all the outside studs and backers hoping it would help, leaving 108 in place down the center and it still vibrated bad, it wasn't any better. Take them out and the vibration is gone. Using all singles and there is no vibration. I put 700 miles on the new iceripper XT sharp stud on my Attak so far, and love it. I'll never stud again after using this track. To give up 5 MPH using 144 studs is just asking to much, as well as the threat of throwing them thru the heat exchanger. That is why I don't like single backers too, they just don't have the traction or support of double backers.

Wierd...my vibration is so bad it feels like I have a bent driveshaft (which is a possibility too). I never even considered the studs but this is the first sled I've ever used double backers on. Something else to think about....cripes..

DoctorC,
I'm sure it's not your driveshaft. It's the double backers. We also studded my friends Uncle's sled using the same pattern and double backers, and it vibrated bad too. He ruined that track and just put another track on using all single backers and has no vibration using single backers. If you run a fully clipped track you could install the Ski-Doo extros as they don't seem to vibrate nearly as bad using them. I just wanted to get rid of all the vibration and pick up some speed, so I went to the Iceripper XT rather than carry all the stud weight on these stockers. Turbo sled has the power to carry all the iron in the track, these stockers don't.
