8JP-17641-00 New Viper Belt

Ok, I have decided to chime in. Shorter belt does not bend more than a long belt. The amount of bend is determined by the diameter of the clutches. The belt could be three feet longer and the amount of bending will still be the same. The bending is done by the size of the radius. Smaller radius more bend, larger radius less bend.
Well put ;)!

I disagree. The shorter belt is going to have to travel more times around to cover the same distance as a longer belt just as a smaller tire does versus a larger one. It has to its circumference is smaller so it will be bending more. Don't really see it being an issue with it being so close but it will bend more I think.

How can it bend more did Yamaha change there clutches ...I think they are the same size ...... Or do you mean the belt has to go around more times than a longer one , that is true but I still don't think it will make more heat ....well I know it won't make more heat

The belt will be moving at same speed no mater how long it is. You will have less time from the time the belt leave one clutch until it reaches the other however. But also you have less belt flapping with the shorter center to center distance

Really? That would be wonderful if we knew it to be true. Dont want belt flapping like seen on some cats. Will measure it vs a cat 084 belt and see.

Think of how far the ends of a long stick are moved before the stick breaks. Now move the ends of a short stick same amount and which breaks first?

How about harmonics?

I will tell you all this. The Yamaha clutches are not the answer to the broken belts on the cats. It is more than crappy clutches that caused there issues. Many of those guys spent big bucks on aftermarket clutches that are proven designs and still had issues. If our Vipers turn out to be good on belt it is because of something else. Hopefully it is because they changed the center to center and it works. I agree with previous post from 2lapsdown that that would be only reason they made motor so high in chassis and no I wouldnt want it any higher.

I am just saying there were compromises made to put the Nytro engine in the Viper. The loss of Pyramid design supports and this center to center are 2 that I am pretty sure could have been avoided if this sled were designed by Yamaha from the getgo. I bought one and still am convinced it was a great decision. Just want to be informed as much as possible and was told how many times since they announced the Viper it was a 8DN belt or very close. Cripes the Prototypes even said 8DN on them. Never thought to measure the Prototype belt. This is not even close to a 8DN. It had better work.

I personally believe that the engine mounting design by Arctic had a lot to do with belt failure. The height of the engine in my opinion is a compromise made to do the oil changes without changing the chassis for filter and drain access.

Wouldn't that just be great. The belt wears faster and it cost more.

Yamaha just became more like AC. Us paying $100/belt instead of $70 for the 8DN belt. They sell more belts and make more money off the belt.

The quality of Yamaha was suppose to rub off on AC not the other way.

Most of AC belt problems stem from the TCL and that junk is not on the viper so relax people there isn't going to be any issues with the belt . They do make a delete kit for that and the ones that have put it on have not had belt issues

May old enticed 300 had shorter belt and they went 4000 miles if not more . So I'm not sure how I can get it though your heads but I see NO belt issues at all

Banks we cant jump to conclusions here. Maybe the belt will last longer than a Nytro belt. We dont know yet.

Oh one more thing...
Some of you guys are bitching about the belt costing 20 more but you will put 100 hyfax on .... Now that makes since :jump:

Why didn't Yamaha offer bigger idler wheels, clutch guard , subframe kit another heat exchanger should I go on or no..... The list is very big on the nytro .......so to answer your question I don't know but I would guess it's the same reason Yamaha didn't ..... Know what I'm saying .....

Since no one has a production viper,(as they seem to have gone into hiding), and since no one has ever had a documented blown belt. What in the hell is all the anxiety about, a 1/2in less on a belt? An extra 20 bucks for a belt? How much does it cost to fill up the sled...and remember this one has a real gas tank. Jeez, you guys, it is painfully obvious that some of you should have stayed on your "tried and true" sleds. Embarrassing...This is not exactly a giant leap forward in technology.
