I took off the right side panel to see what I could find since I have yet to really look into the sled. I have always figured you spend 13k and you should just be able to ride it and not have to check the whole thing over. At least it was like this with my Doo 1200. Here is what I found.
Anybody know what this washer is for? It was stuck to the black Velcro on the silver heat shield. Stuck pretty good.
This is how I found the oil fill cap. You have it be kidding. Wipe up the oil that spilled out. Was not much to wipe up. Do you see how the filler plug is cross threaded? This is the first time I took any of the panels off and this is how I found it. It only has 200 miles so no oil change yet. Was looking for other loose stuff and came across the oil filler plug.
Yamaha better be reading these forums and better be coming up with a game plan. I'm quickly losing loyalty and will never come back.

Not sure on the washer. Almost looks like a crush washer or shim of some sort. Anyways you do know that panel also comes off/ loose to fill the oil.?. Makes for pouring it in easier than the apex(bigger hole) plus goes straight down.

That is what I figured. Not sure where it belongs and it's purpose. Will hold on to it.
The sled goes to the dealer on Thursday for the speedo pickup/sensor to see if that will fix the hiccup when you get on it.

Almost looks like the washer could go on the cross threaded oil tank cover. Do they come from the factory with oil or is that part of set up? Not good.

Should have read your post better thought you added oil. My bad.
I'm glad so far after getting into my sled then only issue I found was the coolant leaks. Everything else seems OK for now. Hopefully I can get some more miles on it.
These sleds are suppose to come from the factory set and ready to ride. Dealers are only to add and adjust things as needed. Check with your dealer if they added oil and then show them how you found it. Maybe you can get an oil change out of them or something.

That is I first thought but no dice. Not sure where it belongs.

Dealer didn't do that to add oil?? My dealer has some pretty stupid kids PDIing sleds that would probably do that.

Has nothing to do with Yamaha it's the dumb #*$&@ in the service
Alot of these issues should have been caught at the dealers. Make sure to let Yamaha know.

That's why I always hated paying PDI's. It is a money grab. There is very little to do on these sleds when the open the crate. Some places charge $500- $600 for a PDI and then you see this crap.. PDI should be figured into the MSRP and not a add on. If that was my sled and seen a mess like that I would be looking for some money back or free service.

Washer almost looks like a driven clutch shim, no?? Hard to tell size from picture though.
Not all dealers charge a Setup fee. Mine takes 4 hrs to setup a sled not including a guy uncrating it.

I wouldn't blame Yamaha for the cross threaded oil plug just yet. By that I mean what dealer DOESNT check oil and add if needed on PDI? Might be a dealer issue like the guy that was unhappy his handlebars were loose (they come with handlebars off, dealer puts them on)

Due to some of these posts I pulled covers off both Viper and 2014 Cat and checked everything I could. Not a single loose clamp or anything else I could see wrong. Either I got lucky or maybe these sleds are not as bad as they are being presented?
Same here but recently I did find the rub point on oil hose and I still have a intermitent electrical issue at throttle block. Is no doubt improvements need to be made but overall compared to many Yamaha 1st year sleds the Viper seems to have way less issues. Its a sled you can add addons and they are a bonus. Not really needed to have a great sled. Makes it fun!
