Just bought a 2003 RX1LE, Liquid Silver, short track.
Switching from a 136" Viper.
Those of you that long tracked your RX1, would you do it again? Would you use a kit or go with warrior suspension or other? Is it necessary to change drivers for studding clearance? Are anti ratchet drivers with fully clipped track necessary? How about skis, stock, Viper or Doo dual runner?
As for updates, are there any Yamaha covered updates that I should verify if done to the sled?
Yes I know, it's a lot of questions but TY has always been the place for sharing of knowledge. Most of my riding is trail in Northern Ontario. Some in northern lower and UP of Michigan. I am particular about my sleds maintanence, handling, overall performance, etc, and would appreciate any experienced answers.
Thanks,
EdB.

I put the Hartman 136" kit with a Ripsaw 1.25" w/ 162 1.325 picks down the centre. Tremendous improvement over stock also replaced rear shock/spring with a revalved Viper from dealer cheap. Put on Simmons skis which helped front end tremendously. If you have the stock track it must be replaced with a 1.25".
The only thing I would do different is put on a 121" Ohlins M10 if you could get one used instead of going with the 136" extension.

For extension, try this thread:

For skis, try this thread:

For updates, there are the float bowls if you ride the mountains or powder. The longer links and thicker sway bar for the front end. Install a set of straight rate springs too. There was an update for seat rivits. And you need to do the breather hose update if you ride in extremely cold conditions.

Yes I would do a long tack again. (Hartman 136XC with extroverts, 1.5 inch track)
No problem in snow up to 3 feet.
Maximum speed is down slightly from 116 mph to 112 mph (run out of room)
Better shocks would be nice. (maybe next year)

Without hesitation!

Warrior isn't long enough, and a simple extension doesn't help your approach angle. You need extension and relocation
Is it necessary to change drivers for studding clearance?
No
Are anti ratchet drivers with fully clipped track necessary?
It would definitely help, but instead of that, I'm going to be fabricating a live rear axyl for mine
How about skis, stock, Viper or Doo dual runner?
None of those - They ALL have one common problem: They're not large enough for the weight of the machine. Viper has an ADDITIONAL problem - they have shorter keel, which isn't enough to properly steer this sled. Get Simmons skis.
As for updates, are there any Yamaha covered updates that I should verify if done to the sled?
Make sure that you have the hood bumper fix, and if you are NOT relocating/replacing the stock drop plates, also make sure that you have the new rivot.

Thanks Guys.
You all bring up some very interesting points. Taking them all into consideration. Hope to get a few miles in it this spring to get a feel for the sled. I am quite certain the stock conical lug track is coming off. Links and sway bar have been done. Will be checking back later.
Thanks,
EdB.

First thing you do is throw that POS stock track away. next thing is put an M10 136". I went to a 136" this year and I love it. The thing tracks like no other. The new Ripsaw is a 10 in my book. I may go longer, but I would never go shorter. Night and day difference. You will love it.

I knew someone would take this the wrong way. Figures it would be you. When are you going to stop sledding and get some work done. I saw another post that you are going this week and looking for somone to ride with at the end of the month.

And I saw where you are wanting 1 more ride. I've worked 4 days this week. And I'll work 4 days next week. Then only 1 day the following week, that is if I can find somebody to ride the week of the 23rd.
