Has anyone tried the AC5S 5 position shocks yet?
They seem to be a more affordable shock upgrade than the QS3R's , Elka's and such.

I know of a guy who purchased a Catalyst with them and he said they were crazy stiff. He ended up having them revalved.Has anyone tried the AC5S 5 position shocks yet?

Wonder after revamping if they are a substantial improvement making them a worthwhile upgrade with the added cost ?I know of a guy who purchased a Catalyst with them and he said they were crazy stiff. He ended up having them revalved.

the 5 positions is appealing. The 3 of the QS3's is not enough for me, especially since 3 is almost unusable.

I have an 858 SP and waiting on Hygear to finalize their revalve for the AC5s. Beyond setting 1 the shocks are too stiff and on setting 1 they're not that compliant either especially in the small stutters. Pretty sure they'll be a very good shock once revalved.

I agree that number three position is really valued for the extra heavy rider in the very large bumps.. Longer shock rods and longer springs( more travel ) is the answer but then handling is problematic . So your looking for something between positions 2 and 3 for all around along with more adjustability….can you find that at a affordable lower cost is also part of the problem . Let us know if you find that cause Iam sure alot of us would like to continue to improve ride quality…the 5 positions is appealing. I will try it stock at first. I do have an Elka center shock/spring I can try also.
The ATAC shocks limit my options for the other 3.
I would probably lean towards a revalve with and eye on being able to use all 3 positions of the current shocks.

Considering the weight of a 998 verses an 858, they might be better calibrated for the 998 if they are too stiff on an 858. I was considering one for the front skid shock on my Tcat verses the stock shock. I need to check the length of the shock on the 858 skid.I have an 858 SP and waiting on Hygear to finalize their revalve for the AC5s. I think these might be the correct part numbers for the center & rear AC5 shocks for a 137 skid... but I am not positive.Considering the weight of a 998 verses an 858, they might be better calibrated for the 998 if they are too stiff on an 858. Center Shock - 3704-874
Center to center extended length is 12.49" (317.25mm)
Rear Shock - 3704-870
Center to center extended length is 15.24" (387.10mm)
I think the front shocks are too short based on this: Center to center extended length is 17.28" (439mm)
The stock 129/137 ski shocks are 18.36" long so these AC5S would be an inch too short.

Thank you for doing the work on this topic. When Arctic Cat begins to operate under new ownership, perhaps the AC5 shocks will be fitted for use on the Thundercat.I think these might be the correct part numbers for the center & rear AC5 shocks for a 137 skid... but I am not positive.

That center shock would be an updgrade over the current sidewinder fox possibly
