08 Nytro with about 4800 miles on it and just start to have a bad knocking noise, sounds like a rod, will know more next week. Ski-Doo friends will love this story when I show up riding the Phazer, I will never hear the end of it.

I feel your pain, all my buddies love to listen to my horror stories with my MOST Reliable engine in the business!

This is getting alarming. I bought a Yamaha for the reliability number one, rite now I' m glad I bought the YES. Thinking it is going to be ALLOT spendier to rebuild the four stroke in this thing then any two stroke.

Yep, this is the 3rd Nytro engine that I have heard that has had major issues in the last couple of weeks. Yellowknifes, sno-xers and now this one... Seems weird...

Go to dootalk & read the engine failures there. 2 of the above failures were not catostrophic.

Ok lets see, oil pump chain failure, no oil pressure, hmm, seems pretty catostrophic to me. I was just smart enough to not run the motor a bunch to figure out the problem. But that is not saying that I don't have future mechanical engine problems. I put a bandaid on my problem, but I can guaranty my problem will arise again.

No oeffence, but know one knows how this sled was treated, only you... If you are going to complain, then just sell it...

There are a lot of people that know how I maintain and treat my equipment, so I am not sure how I am supposed to take your comment. I don't give a darn if I never changed oil, (but 5 times in 3400 miles should be enough) this thing should of never broke a oil pump chain period!. Snowmobiles are not like motorcycles that has a clutch that you can pull in and free rev the motor or slam gears to shock the motor. The chain was wore on the inside of the links, probably due to a gear with a bad spot on it or something.

And I am pretty sure if your snowmobile stops running on you, you'll be on this forum the same way I am, COMPLAINING! And if you would read all of the rest of my threads on this issue, you would realize that I have really like this sled. Just disappointed that my relialbe motor failed, and yes I know it has been a rare problem. And yes someday I will sell it, because I know that someday the problem will occur again, because nothing was replaced but the chain. So I am sure it will wear this chain out in about 3000 miles like the last.

So you want to buy it?

No, thanks, I already got one. I have complained enough to Yamaha about my Apex, but I never complained about their engines... It's rare, what happened to yours... I have a 5 year warranty, so I could'nt give a rats #*$&@ if it blows up... That's the reason I bought it. Great warranty and for the most part a reliable product... It's just other things that make me upset about the Yamaha sleds...

look at ur warranty duznt cover cover wearable items lol.
i hate it wen dealers just fix the problem thers always a reason y they just fix it and get it out the door
and im just curiouse did the dealer that sold me my nytro think i was going to take my "NYTRO" baddest sled of the year home and ride it like miss daisy. i think not he knows im driving it like i stole it!!!
and he gladdly takes my money and all the time saying this sled was built to take abuse " rough trail sled" right???
so i dont think it matters how u treat these things snoracer or whatever has a legal bitch and deserves to no y the chain wore out and broke but thats just me

Since when is a oil pump chian wearing though a regular WEAR item???? I know in all my engines with a timing chain, if the alignment is correct they will never be replaced, a timing BELT should be replaced, but not a chain, only the tensioner of the chain should be checked and it should have a lifespan of the engine aswell, Personally i would be in yamaha's face about it till they do something about it, thats BS ridden hard or not the inside of the engine is there department to get right, i just bolt stuff to the outside of the sled and ride it. I let it warm up and do all the maintinence they suggust and more.

This sounds like it could be a defect in these engines. This is the second timing chain recorded broken on these forums. I'll bet when more guys get 3-4 thousand miles on their Nytros we will see even more of this. My wife has about 3300 miles on hers maybe I should keep the tow strap near by. :o|

The second time on an internet froum does not make it a defect...how may thousand Nytros have not had this problem...JDS, stop coming on here to stir the pot.

I do feel sorry for the OP, if that happened to me it would put an end to my season...I hope everything works out for ya.
