We are looking into options for building some auxiliary coolers that can be added to the viper. Going back and forth on going with a rear tunnel cooler or a running board cooler.
What preference is there among Ty members?

Exhaust side radiator and fan to remove front stock one would be awesome. Otherwise running board as long as they don't hit at full bottom.

Rear tunnel would build ice like crazy and would be a definite no in my book.

I had the rear HX on my Apex XTX and it didn't build up much ice at all. some on the sides, but you could knock it off easy enough at stops.

Cat had the rear cooler on earlier versions of this chassis but dropped it because of weights gains after riding.

What about the tunnel protector type for studded tracks that cat used to run? Some of their paddle tracks where notched for these coolers..??? Might serve a dual purpose? Dunno, throwin' it there for ya to consider!

My goal was to build an exchanger that would have cooling capacity equal to the radiator. This would allow for a radiator delete if desired.
Lots of focus on getting fresh cold air to the intake such as excells set up. Removing rad would allow cool fresh air to flow in.
The small rad and fan could be an additional supplement. I know stingray is testing an apex rad and fan that I sent him.

Yep goes in as soon as I get the turbo on.

Do the turbo and charger kits come with any supplemental coolers?

I don't think any of them do but I guess the question should be, Do they need any extra cooling?

From my experience the 4 stroke yamaha's have all had marginal cooling capacity upon their initial release. Increasing horsepower increases heat so I was just curious if the turbo/charger companies found the need to compensate by supplying a cooler.

I think that was true with the boosted Nytros so good chance the Vipers will need some help also. Curious to see how it plays out this season, sounds like alot of Vipers will be running boost.

The radiator location on the vipers allows for more air flow and are more efficient than that of the nytro. Operating temps are approximately 20 degrees cooler than that of the nytro. One Viper turbo set up that I know of never saw anything above 170 no matter how long of a pull. It ran all day.

I agree. The radiator and fan is huge also.

Yep, and the Viper will actually cool without a radiator and just running ice scratchers. Mine runs 170 to 174 in my limited testing. (DISCLAIMER: don't run radiator delete as I have)
