So here is what I have planned for the summer with my tunnel. I'm replacing the Apex coolers with RX-1 cooler because they are shorter and running a set of these http://www.castlequestent.com/Sno%20Free%20Yamaha.html , I will then cut the remainder of the foot board OFF and reinforce the sides from the inside with 1/8" aluminum plates. Does this make sense........? Now what all have you guys devized...I know NIKO has an idea going and I've thought of edge coolers and removing the under running board cooler but the crappy design of the long running board hangs up when carving and side hilling so I'd like to eliminate the back half of the running board...your thoughts?

WOW...nice

Great link man I like those A LOT!!! In the pictures the outer edges don't look like heat exchangers do you know if the kit comes with a large rear heat exchanger in the kick up? Wondering how they are being cooled after removing the stock coolers? I'm definately interested that looks to be the best designed and most economical mod for our tunnels I've seen to date! Great simple fix for the crappy Yamaha stock design......sweet! ;)! I like the post on your sled....very nice and well explained! I'd be interested in your tunnel mod also if you'd consider building another one?

Yes the outer edges have heat exchangers. That setup up is sweet - and not too expensive. He wanted 600 dollar for both running board inserts with kick up and outer heat axchangers. This only need some cutting and riveting. SWEET setup in my opinion. :bling

You would need a large heat exchangers in both setups.

My VE-style tunnel is not build to sell. You could build yourself the same tunnel - I have the CAD files - it is not hard ;)! .

so stoked!

That's great man I'm so STOKED these will be on my sled by next year FOR SURE! Did you talk with him specifically about the heated edges and is this the difference in price? On the web sit it says 400.00 canadian but the ones they show don't have the heated edge coolers. Does he offer the rear cooler or as part of the kit or we come up with that on our own? Also it looks like the rake or angle is steeper then stock and the height of the sides of the tunnels is shorter meaning maybe he raised the foot beds up a little on the side of the tunnel and cut off what was below ...?

I asked specifically with heat exchangers on the edges - the rear cooler is not included.

update on the Rat sled kit

So I talked with Steve at Rat sled, (the above link) he was nice but gave me a price of 900.00 for the running boards and the rear tunnel kick up which is considerably higher then the web site has listed! This is troubling for me to swallow! I expect to pay the advertised price not get gouged! Nice stuff but nearly the cost of a complete tunnel and if you add the rear heat exchanger it's 1100.00.... you might as well buy a whole new tunnel! So back to the drawing board for me...... If it were 750.00 for the rear tunnel kick up and boards I'd consider it but 900.00 is simply to much in my opinion. TT you still have the RX running board coolers and will you sell them? Hit me back

You don't need the tunnel extension - you can modify you stock one. This will get you dollar down.

I am keeping the heat exchanger to make a big rear heat exchanger - sorry!

Had done this to tunnel two years ago, am in process of undertunnel exhaust and Brandt boards now ;)!

Agreed but 600.00 plus 100.00 for shipping is excessive for a set of running boards with edge coolers.......no other way to say it. That's to much money period!
