Air Box Mod and K&M filters

Here's an idea I would like some input on.

With a PC III and ignition controler.

Open up the entire bottom of the air box. Leaving enough structure to the box to support the lid and sensor plugs etc. But gutted enough to allow K&N filters, with down turns, to be installed.

This seems that it would allow all the air needed, be open enough to get cold air flow, at trail speeds. As well as ensure a properly filtered air intake.

With the lid intact, the noice levels may not be as much as a ram air.

You thoughts or guidance please .

You aren't going to gain any more horsepower because the throttle bodies become the "neck down" portion of the system. The filters will also be just as loud as a ram air lid setup.

Would it enhance your design to drill holes in the front of the airbox below the filter. This would seem to get some cold air flow directly through the hood vents.
 
Once you modify the air box with the MOD air box or a Ram Air lid the air box is no longer the "restriction" in the system. The restriction is the throttle bodies so having more air flow through the air box itself will not help.

I would not drill anymore holes in the air box simply because you can disrupt the air flow. We do modify the front cover to get more flow.

OK, now I understand "neck down" of the system. That makes sense now that opening the box further will have no affect.

Experimenting with the holes in front of the box last season; I experienced "fuel spitting" and "fouling" on the PTO side cylinder. Your comment on disrupting the airflow really clarifies for me that, that was the problem.

I will still eliminate two other causes that you advised me of last spring; removal of lock tight on my NGK 10's caps that might hamper conductivity issues and the appliaction of dielectric grease on plug/caps to prevent corrosion that leads to arching. I had small signs of corrosion.
